Chapter 12
I didn’t know how to respond.
That was something from so long ago, it felt like a story belonging to someone else.
“What does it have to do with you? I am Xu An now, not An Qin.”
His gaze lingered on my face for a long time.
Tender and cautious, as if he wanted to hide me entirely within it.
There was so much more in that gaze, ready to surge forth, yet restrained and pulled back, making his expression difficult to decipher for a moment.
After a while, he said, “It doesn’t matter who you are.”
“You just need to know, you won’t have the chance to leave me again.”
Because of that sentence, I tossed and turned the entire night.
When Jiang Yao called in a hurry at dawn, my heart leapt to my throat.
I didn’t expect her to say that Jiang Huaixu had invested in our project.
The next morning, I saw Jiang Huaixu again at the entrance.
For this business trip, I had booked just a regular hotel, so a luxury car like a Maybach was uncommon.
Moreover, Jiang Huaixu, leaning against the car in a light-colored long coat, looked even more striking, hard not to draw attention.
I glanced at him and walked in the other direction.
“An… An’an.”
Jiang Huaixu caught up with me, “The project team’s dinner, let me take you.”
“No need.” I took out my phone; the car I had ordered was almost here.
He wanted to say more, but I had already swiftly gotten into the car and closed the door.
To me, the past no longer needed to be mentioned.
But Jiang Huaixu clearly didn’t think so.
At the dinner table, he casually removed two dishes I was allergic to.
Back in the slums, I often didn’t have enough to eat, and a neighbor auntie gave me two baskets of tomatoes.
I ate them and became itchy all over, thinking it was just a cold.
It was Jiang Huaixu who shook me awake in the middle of the night when I was burning up and carried me to a nearby clinic.
At that time, I was wrapped in his coat, listening to his cold tone, “You’ve grown this big and don’t even know what an allergy is?”
He despised my ignorance, but after that, he would always make sure to instruct others that I couldn’t eat tomatoes.
But now, what does it matter?
