chapter 9
When I received the apology call from the Cheng Family, I was slowly walking through the campus of University A.
Although I can’t stand for long periods, I make sure to walk a bit every day to prevent muscle atrophy in my legs.
This time, I came to University A on a whim.
Xu Sixian was finishing his last exam today, and I planned to pick him up, though I hadn’t told him yet.
This is called creating a surprise.
I’ve done things like this on a whim before, but Cheng Song never seemed very surprised.
Xu Sixian is different from Cheng Song.
I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of expression he would show when he saw me.
The more I thought about it, the more I couldn’t help but smile.
As one of the top universities in A City, and even nationwide, University A has a beautiful campus, with clean and spacious roads.
The students passing by are very polite. Even if someone is curious and glances at Uncle Chen pushing my wheelchair and me standing beside him, they only look for a moment before turning away.
The head of the Cheng Family was apologizing to me in a panic, talking about Cheng Song and scolding him harshly. He said the family had already punished him, listing each measure one by one, and finally asked if I was satisfied with their handling.
I didn’t listen carefully, because I was looking at the soil where the young trees were growing.
Since he asked, I just replied, “It’s average,” and hung up the phone.
“Miss, would you like to sit and rest for a while?” Uncle Chen asked.
“It’s fine here, Uncle Chen.” I shook my head. “Xu Xiaoshu should study for a few more years, don’t you think?”
Uncle Chen doesn’t call Xu Sixian Xiaoshu like I do.
He now calls him Young Master Xu, explaining that since Xu Sixian is my person, his status is now equal to half a young master of the He Family.
“Young Master Xu is limited by his major, so further study is the best choice,” Uncle Chen said. “The path Miss chooses for him is naturally the best.”
“If he wants to work, I think there are people in the family who can guide him. If he wants to go abroad, our overseas businesses have expanded quite well…” I thought for a moment, feeling that each option suited him, “I’ll ask him when the time comes and let him choose for himself.”
Uncle Chen seemed a bit surprised, but the emotion quickly faded.
“Let’s go, let’s pick him up after his exam.”
I sat down in the wheelchair.
This was my first time picking someone up after an exam, and it was the top student in the department.
It felt fresh and new.
Before I reached the exam hall, I suddenly saw a familiar figure with a backpack hurrying out of the teaching building.
“Miss, that’s Young Master Xu,” Uncle Chen said. “Should I call out to him?”
“He must have handed in his paper early,” I thought, a mischievous idea forming. “No need, let’s follow him.”
I planned to sneak up and give him a scare.
Uncle Chen didn’t say a word and pushed me after him.
Xu Sixian’s destination was clear, but the place he was heading to left me more and more confused.
Uncle Chen said, “That’s the experimental field of University A’s College of Agriculture.”
Agriculture-this has nothing to do with Xu Sixian’s materials major.
As I was puzzling over it, I heard someone call his name.
“Xu Sixian.” A dirt-streaked person emerged from the field. “You come here more often than I do. My advisor asked me the other day if you wanted to join his group.”
He was loud, but I couldn’t hear what Xu Sixian replied.
I saw the guy laugh heartily: “If you weren’t so good at talking, I wouldn’t bother teaching you… Anyway, the cherry tomatoes you planted are fine. By the way, does your family run a gardening shop? You’re always growing all sorts of random things.”
Xu Sixian seemed to recall something, and a faint smile appeared on his face.
The sunlight was warm, gently wrapping around his handsome profile.
I stood frozen.
Actually, I knew Xu Sixian was busy. When I asked him to bring me plants, it was just a casual remark.
Maybe the first Succulent was cultivated by him, but the second, the third… I never bothered to ask where he got them, or I just assumed he bought them.
But I didn’t care.
I treat people well purely based on my mood, because what I give is always something trivial to me, so whether I get anything in return doesn’t matter.
So, coming to the College of Agriculture to learn, getting his hands dirty every day to watch seeds sprout, sending me a whole sea of green, all from start to finish, without saying a word.
To Xu Sixian, was this act of giving also something trivial? My heart felt as if it had been suddenly pierced.
It didn’t hurt, but it was a little sour and itchy, emotions slowly seeping out.
I lowered my eyes. “Let’s go, Uncle Chen. Don’t let him see us.”
