chapter 6
It wasn’t until Cheng Song came to see me that I realized I hadn’t seen him in a long time.
And I hadn’t messaged him to check on him for quite a while either.
But I kept quiet about sponsoring Xu Sixian, since Cheng Song had also hidden the fact that he was sponsoring Su Wantang.
I thought that was fair.
The only difference was that he couldn’t keep it a secret, while I could.
Cheng Song only knew that some unknown person was protecting Xu Sixian. Not only could his people no longer touch Xu Sixian, but they also kept their distance from him, as if it were a taboo.
He was extremely anxious, probing for information while having to avoid me, so agitated that pimples had broken out on his forehead.
The moment I saw him, I was stunned.
Then I quietly averted my gaze, a little disdainful as I thought: How did he get uglier? Not as good-looking as Xiaoshu.
“Lingyue.” His tone was indifferent. “I’ve been busy with social events lately and haven’t had time to see you. Shall we have dinner tonight?”
Tonight, Xiaoshu said he would cook for me.
I didn’t want to have dinner with Cheng Song.
Just as I was about to refuse, Cheng Song naturally changed the subject: “By the way, Jinji hasn’t contacted me this month. I have an important gathering coming up and no suitable clothes.”
Jinji used to custom-make three sets of clothes for Cheng Song every month, at my instruction.
But this month’s clothes were already on Xiaoshu, and Cheng Song didn’t get any.
Uncle Chen, who delivered them for me, didn’t even bat an eye.
I glanced at him in surprise. “Then go to Jinji.”
Why come to me? I’m not a tailor.
But without me, Jinji wouldn’t even bother with Cheng Song.
He wasn’t qualified.
Cheng Song was silent for a few seconds, impatience flickering in his eyes and brows. “Stop messing around.”
I looked at him with interest. “Jinji is busy lately. You can go wait in line.”
He finally seemed to realize that my reaction was off.
Cheng Song looked at me, hesitated for a few seconds, and even softened his voice a little: “Lingyue, is it because I haven’t come to see you lately that you’re upset?”
I sized him up, and the more I looked, the more I felt that men of a certain age really needed to take care of themselves.
Cheng Song’s phone vibrated.
He must have been distracted, because he forgot to avoid me and looked straight down at the message on his phone.
It was probably from Su Wantang. I didn’t mean to peek, but I caught a glimpse by accident-it was a photo.
-“A friend was shooting University A’s promotional photos today, so I helped out with carrying water and stuff >w”
The boy in the photo looked familiar-it was Xu Sixian.
Xu Sixian had also told me about the promotional shoot. Seeing him wearing the clothes I gave him put me in an even better mood.
Cheng Song only glanced at it, not even noticing the message from Su Wantang, and froze on the spot.
He zoomed in on the photo, and the irritation in his eyes and brows turned into a blank stare.
Then his fingers trembled, gripping so tightly that his knuckles turned white, as he stared at the emblem on Xu Sixian’s cuff-that was Jinji’s unique mark. After wearing it for so many years, there was no way he’d mistake it.
