chapter 16
After Cheng Song was dragged away, roaring, the Cheng Family didn’t even wait for the security to see them out-they left in disgrace.
The banquet returned to normal. Many people came over to offer toasts, smiling as if nothing had happened just moments ago.
He politely declined them all.
No one would say he didn’t know what was good for him. Instead, they gathered around me and praised Xu Sixian, saying he was elegant and gentle as jade, handsome and charming. Some had clearly done their homework, complimenting him as a top student from University A, a future pillar of the nation.
There were even people from the materials industry who came straight up to invite Xu Sixian to join their project, offering him a risk-free position as a professional consultant, just waiting to share the profits.
They said all sorts of things.
To be honest, I used to be tired of hearing such flattery.
But when the object of their praise became Xu Sixian, my attitude changed.
I loved hearing every word, not only listening with relish but also chiming in from time to time.
These guests had never seen the He Family’s young lady in such a good mood and so patient. Each of them was flattered, as if they’d unlocked some secret technique, and their compliments became even more skillful.
Until Xu Sixian was so embarrassed by the praise that he tugged at my hand.
Under the lights, his eyes lightened in color, like a piece of flowing amber.
“Miss,” he said, “I’m really going to get spoiled by all this affection.”
“Oh.” I blinked. “Then give us a performance.”
I was still looking forward to that scene.
Xu Sixian: “…”
My mood lifted again.
The banquet ended with everyone happy.
Until Uncle Chen received a phone call, his expression turning serious.
He came over and whispered in my ear, “Cheng Song went to a bar to drown his sorrows. His mood isn’t right. The people watching Su Wantang said he entered Su Wantang’s house.”
My expression changed slightly.
“Listen to what’s going on inside. If anything seems off, go in immediately and bring Su Wantang out.” I gave a brief order, then glanced at Xu Sixian beside me.
He still didn’t know what had happened.
Thinking of that earlier, “Why are you all like this,” I felt a bit annoyed. “Forget it, I’ll go myself.”
