Take Me Away, My Love - Chapter 35 - Ambiguity in the Office
Since discovering that Jian Yiqing was actually the Ling Kong chief, Li Minchun had not been idle. Whenever she had the chance, she would search for a scapegoat, someone whose claim as the Ling Kong chief would be more convincing.
Afterwards, she would just need to behead that person and present the head to Madam Li.
Alternatively, Li Minchun sought the mastermind who wanted to kill the Ling Kong chief. Only by finding the real financial backer could this matter be completely resolved.
The sensor beeped.
Li Minchun hurriedly closed the office door and turned on the video, seeing Madam Li’s face appear on the wall in front of her.
Even though it was just a video, it still felt very oppressive.
“Madam Li,” Li Minchun called respectfully.
“How have things been going recently? Have you accomplished anything? I heard you were getting quite close to a child some time ago-what’s that about?”
Hearing Madam Li mention Jian Qingtian made Li Minchun nervous. If they started focusing on Jian Qingtian, it could spell trouble.
So she quickly said, “The child is actually the Ling Kong chief’s son, and I have met the Ling Kong recently.”
Unable to avoid it, Li Minchun had to confess the truth.
After all, Madam Li and her subordinates were not fools. If caught lying, the consequences would be severe.
“Oh? Does that mean you can act soon?” Upon hearing this, Madam Li’s eyes sparkled with interest. Clearly, she was quite invested in this matter. And from Li Minchun’s words, it was apparent she hadn’t been deceiving her. For that reason, Madam Li seemed satisfied with Li Minchun’s efforts.
“I haven’t found the right opportunity yet. The chief is incredibly cunning, and his skills are definitely on par with mine. I haven’t had a chance to strike.”
Li Minchun offered this excuse.
Madam Li asked, “Do you want me to send someone to assist you?”
Madam Li knew that trying to kill the Ling Kong chief was a very difficult task. She wouldn’t forcibly demand Li Minchun to act if Li Minchun couldn’t ensure her own safety. After all, Madam Li valued and cared for Li Minchun a great deal.
“No need. Even if someone were sent, getting close to the chief is very difficult. It would be better for me to slowly approach him and wait for the opportunity to strike.”
Li Minchun feared someone might expose her thoughts; how could she possibly be willing to accept help?
“Alright, be careful. Complete the task as soon as possible; I believe in you.” With that, Madam Li’s video disappeared.
At that moment, the previously closed door suddenly opened.
Li Minchun sharply demanded, “Who is it?”
The intruder paused briefly, and then a tall man’s figure slipped in-it was Jian Yiqing.
“Chief.”
Almost ready to act, Li Minchun managed to hold back just in time, greeting him respectfully.
Jian Yiqing curiously examined her, moved closer, and asked, “What are you watching here? Why did you look so tense when I came in suddenly? Do you have something to hide?”
Raising her eyebrows, Li Minchun quickly retorted, “No, nothing like that.”
“Really? Can you explain then what you were thinking while staring at the wall?”
Jian Yiqing stopped in front of Li Minchun, maintaining a serious demeanor, his eyes fixed unwaveringly on her, trying to catch any subtle expression.
“Daydreaming, I was just daydreaming,” Li Minchun replied. She had to be cautious in front of Jian Yiqing, because if he discovered her true identity, the consequences would be unimaginable.
“Really?”
As he spoke, Jian Yiqing began to slowly approach Li Minchun, finding that in certain ways, she indeed resembled someone he knew.
Unfortunately, the strong scent of Chanel perfume she wore was quite different from Li Minchun’s natural fragrance.
Li Minchun took a step back, trying to put some distance between herself and Jian Yiqing.
But Jian Yiqing suddenly wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into his embrace. As her ample chest collided with his solid frame, both felt an immediate tension, like magnets drawn irresistibly together.
“Chief, what are you doing?” Li Minchun protested, pushing against Jian Yiqing. Yet, in front of Jian Yiqing’s strength, her efforts seemed small and insignificant.
Almost effortlessly, he held her tightly, leaving her with no room to move.
“Chief…”
Li Minchun began to say, but then she noticed his familiar, handsome face drawing nearer.
It had been so long since they last saw each other-missing him was inevitable.
Especially in this ambiguous posture, Li Minchun’s emotions towards Jian Yiqing intensified. Her body tensed, wanting to push him away, yet part of her fantasized about even the slightest intimate contact. She longed to tell him how she had been nearby all this time, watching him become despondent over her disappearance, and how he tenderly cared for their son.
More importantly, her profound longing for Jian Yiqing surged like a never-ending spring.
She had imagined this scene many times in her dreams, wondering if one day they could be together again like before, even if their days were simple yet filled with joy.
But now, she couldn’t reveal her true identity-it wasn’t the right time.
Just as Li Minchun was about to break free, Jian Yiqing leaned in and pressed his lips to hers with surprising speed, capturing them firmly.
The familiar touch and flavor almost made them both melt.
Closing his eyes, Jian Yiqing held the woman in his arms, wishing to believe she was Li Minchun. As he continued kissing her, lightly nipping at her lips, he murmured against her ear, “Li Minchun, Li Minchun, I miss you so much…”
As he spoke, his hand ventured beneath her clothing.
At that invasive touch, Li Minchun swiftly collected herself and pushed him away forcefully.
As she adjusted her clothing, she coldly said, “Chief, please show some respect.”
Her frigid demeanor stood in stark contrast to their passionate embrace moments ago. If Jian Yiqing hadn’t trusted his instincts, he might have questioned whether the previous moment had been an illusion.
“Alright, let’s get down to business.”
Jian Yiqing said as he sat down in the chair opposite Li Minchun, looking at her with a proud expression.
“What?”
“Today you accompanied Jian Qingtian to the parents’ meeting, right? Don’t you think you owe me an explanation for that?” Jian Yiqing asked, his tone haughty.
Although Li Minchun disliked his attitude, she felt she had no choice but to calmly respond, “It wasn’t intentional…”
She then recounted how she encountered Jian Qingtian yesterday and everything that happened today, telling Jian Yiqing the full story. However, she deliberately withheld information about Chen Zhen.
After listening to her story, Jian Yiqing nodded in satisfaction, as the information matched what he had already uncovered in his investigation.
“Why did you help him by attending the parents’ meeting?” Unexpectedly, Jian Yiqing asked this question again.
“I already told you, his teacher insisted that his mother attend. Jian Qingtian didn’t want others to know about his family situation, so he asked me to stand in for his mother.”
Li Minchun explained, word by word. At this moment, she felt more at ease, the panic from earlier having subsided.
“Is that really all there is to it?” Jian Yiqing asked as he moved closer to her once more.
It was strange; he generally didn’t like kissing other women. Especially after being with Li Minchun, Jian Yiqing felt an aversion to other women from the bottom of his heart.
Yet now, he felt something different with Su Xin, sometimes even sensing that she could be Li Minchun.
But the unfamiliar face before him made him doubt his own judgment.
“If you don’t like it, Chief, I can refrain from going in the future. I’m off work now.”
With that, she turned and walked out, not waiting to see Jian Yiqing’s reaction.
When she finally reached a secluded area, Li Minchun’s nerves, which had been tightly wound, finally relaxed.
She let out a long sigh of relief. It had been nerve-wracking-if Jian Yiqing’s hand had actually touched her scars, her cover might have been blown.
The fact that he questioned her so intensely meant that Jian Yiqing was already suspicious of her. It was clear to Li Minchun that she needed to act swiftly and decisively regarding this matter, or the consequences could be dire.
Her first priority was to quickly ensure Jian Qingtian’s safety. In the event of an unforeseen incident, there might be someone who would try to harm him.
He was too young to protect himself, and by the time she would try to rescue him, it might already be too late.
Lost in thought, Li Minchun suddenly bumped into someone as she walked forward.
Stopping, she hurriedly apologized to the man in front of her, “I’m sorry, really sorry, I didn’t mean to…”
But when she looked up, she was stunned by who she saw.
“Come with me.”
The man took Li Minchun by the hand and led her to a car parked on the side of the road.
Standing nearby, Jian Yiqing happened to witness this scene. Watching Li Minchun get into the car without resistance, his brow furrowed deeply. What was the relationship between that man and her?
