Take Me Away, My Love - Chapter 34 - Chen Zhen?
A cold and devilish child appeared in front of Li Minchun, and shortly after, a beautiful face emerged behind her.
The woman had a pure and natural appearance, complemented by a curvaceous figure. She seemed like a flawless gem, exuding an aura of simplicity that one could easily sense at a glance.
When Li Minchun saw this scene, she froze. No matter how the person had changed, in Li Minchun’s eyes, she was always the pure and innocent Chen Zhen from the past.
Yes, the person standing before Li Minchun was indeed Chen Zhen.
As Chen Zhen walked in, she finally noticed Li Minchun. Behind her beautiful face appeared a similarly incredulous expression.
These people were different from ordinary people; they had studied the art of masks countless times. So even if Li Minchun’s disguise was flawless, Chen Zhen could still detect from various subtle details that the woman in front of her was Li Minchun.
“It’s you?”
Chen Zhen walked towards Li Minchun excitedly, her eyes shining with a blend of guilt, helplessness, and gratitude.
After a brief moment of being stunned, Li Minchun nodded and smiled, saying, “It’s me.”
This simple exchange was enough to reveal their identities to each other.
Although only four words were spoken, they were filled with countless unspoken words. Even if unspoken at present, one day someone would understand.
“You know each other?” Jian Qingtian asked warily, looking at Li Minchun beside him.
He thought to himself, how could someone under his father know this little troublemaker’s mother? This was too strange.
Sensing his suspicion, Li Minchun quickly explained, “We ran into each other on the street a few days ago. She was almost hit by a car, and I saved her.”
Hearing Li Minchun’s explanation of their relationship, Chen Zhen laughed and added, “Yes, if it weren’t for you that day, I wouldn’t be here. I really should thank you properly. It must be destiny that we met again today…”
As they continued talking, it was almost as if even they were starting to believe their own tale.
The parents’ meeting wasn’t particularly important; it basically covered just a few key points. However, the main takeaway was quite clear.
It primarily revolved around Jian Qingtian’s academic performance and behavior at the kindergarten.
Fortunately, Jian Qingtian was very intelligent. Though a bit mischievous, the teachers mentioned that comparing him to a genius wouldn’t be off the mark.
Knowing that her son was doing well at school, Li Minchun felt relieved.
As she was leaving, she gave Chen Zhen a knowing glance, which Chen Zhen quickly understood. Leaving the children at school to continue learning, the two of them agreed to meet at a nearby café after leaving the school.
The quiet Shangdao Café had embroidered curtains separating almost every seat. If you weren’t paying attention, you’d hardly notice who was sitting beside you. The serene music playing there was indeed perfect for conversation.
They found a relatively quiet spot, with one of them gazing out the window and the other stirring her coffee.
At first, neither spoke. They just sat there quietly, face to face.
After a while, Chen Zhen finally turned her gaze away from the window and said, “Thanks for the last time.”
“What do you mean?” Li Minchun was momentarily confused by her words. But when she looked up and saw Chen Zhen’s clear, pure eyes, she understood. She was referring to the time when she used the chip to exchange for Chen Zhen’s freedom.
With a slight smile, she replied, “Aren’t we good sisters? As good sisters, we should help each other. Besides, I said long ago that this chip is our lifesaver.”
Hearing Li Minchun speak so lightly and casually about it, Chen Zhen felt even more embarrassed.
Li Minchun had always been open-hearted and would use any means possible to help her achieve her dreams.
But when it came to facing Li Minchun, what had she done?
Not only did she not help her, but she also nearly ended her life.
Now, in front of Li Minchun, Chen Zhen felt utterly ashamed and embarrassed.
“Chen Zhen, what’s wrong?” Li Minchun whispered when she saw the awkward look in Chen Zhen’s eyes. Even such a soft voice startled her.
“Nothing, it’s nothing. I just feel guilty towards you. Li Minchun, can you forgive me? It was a moment of confusion for me back then. For the sake of my happiness, for my child to have a complete family… Li Minchun, you know, I was so conflicted at the time. Every time I saw you with Jian Yiqing, looking so close, it pained me… They promised me they wouldn’t hurt you; I was naïve to believe them…”
As she spoke, tears started to fall uncontrollably from Chen Zhen’s eyes. She seemed utterly sorrowful.
Her eyes were red, swollen from crying, making her look particularly pitiful.
Li Minchun gently held her hand and found Chen Zhen’s hands to be cold as ice. “You’re my dear sister. Let the past stay in the past. I know you didn’t mean to do it. Can you promise me one thing?”
“What is it?” Right now, it seemed as if even if Li Minchun asked Chen Zhen to die, she might just do it.
“I want you to help me with something. If you find Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo, please let me know, alright?” Li Minchun said earnestly.
“Find Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo? How could I? They might have returned to Italy or are hiding somewhere else. It’s impossible for me to find them.”
Just the thought of those two made Chen Zhen shake her head firmly.
After what happened before, Chen Zhen believed she’d never see those two again in her lifetime.
Now, they were targets of the Mercenary Group’s pursuit. If even a trace of them was discovered, countless mercenaries would kill them immediately.
Betraying the Mercenary Group was a grave crime, never to be forgiven.
They are probably too busy avoiding mercenaries sent by the group to even think about contacting her.
But Li Minchun didn’t see it that way.
If she were in Cheng Mo’s position and had no other choice, she thought she might take the risk to seek Chen Zhen’s help. Chen Zhen had a soft heart and was easily deceived; she could be easily persuaded to cooperate with them.
“Chen Zhen, all you need to do is promise me this one thing. If Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo actually come looking for you, then please make sure to let me know. You know what happens to those who betray the organization; I’m sure you don’t want to end up dead and forgotten. If something happens to you, what will happen to your son? Rely on Cheng Duo and Cheng Mo? Don’t kid yourself; they won’t treat your child well.”
The consequences Li Minchun described grew more severe, eventually making Chen Zhen’s skin crawl.
That’s right, she was already a sitting duck, vulnerable without the organization’s protection, a target for anyone wishing to bully her.
“Okay, I promise you.”
Chen Zhen nodded solemnly.
Li Minchun smiled.
It seemed her good sister, just like before, would stand with her on the same side.
“Alright, it’s getting late, and I need to leave. Take care of yourself, and if you need anything, come find me-or Ru Long. He wouldn’t just stand by and do nothing.”
Speaking of Ru Long, Li Minchun playfully stuck out her tongue. Meanwhile, a slight hint of embarrassment flashed across Chen Zhen’s face as she said helplessly, “I’ve already owed him too much in the past. I can’t trouble him again.”
“Do you care about Ru Long?” Li Minchun was a bit frustrated, thinking that in all things Chen Zhen was competent, except when it came to matters of the heart, where she seemed utterly clueless.
“Of course, I care. I just want to avoid hurting him, which is why I keep my distance. It’s better for both of us this way. After all, I know I’m bound to let him down in the future; better to cut it off now rather than later.”
“Alright, I trust your choice.”
Li Minchun patted her shoulder before turning to leave.
In his office, Jian Yiqing received all sorts of information daily. Today’s news, however, was that Jian Qingtian had actually asked Su Xin to attend the parents’ meeting for him.
“Bang!”
Jian Yiqing slapped his desk hard, looking incredulously at Zhang Mi beside him.
“How is this even possible? They’ve barely known each other long, and they haven’t spent much time together. How could he ask Su Xin to attend the parents’ meeting? Am I such an inadequate father?”
When it came to his son, Jian Yiqing was more invested than anyone else. Not just because he was his son, but because he was the child of him and Li Minchun.
Zhang Mi saw Jian Yiqing fuming and tried to calm him down. “Jian Yiqing, I think Su Xin might have something to do with this. Don’t you find this woman rather peculiar?”
Hearing this, Jian Yiqing frowned and asked, “What do you mean?”
“I’ve looked into Su Xin’s background, and there’s surprisingly little information available. Her birthplace and school history are mostly blank. What I could find is limited to her previous and current employment.”
These details were something Jian Yiqing was already aware of. After all, being the leader of Qingmu, he wouldn’t have overlooked investigating her.
However, his perspective differed from Zhang Mi’s. Jian Yiqing didn’t think of Su Xin as part of an opposing force; perhaps she merely wanted to keep her true identity hidden. Many people in Ling Kong did the same, including Jian Yiqing himself.
Who knows the identity of Ling Kong’s chief, apart from the top brass?
“And don’t you think she resembles someone else?”
This was the main point Zhang Mi wanted to convey.
Even though that woman had been missing for almost two years, her influence persistently lingered in their lives.
At least, Jian Yiqing had never forgotten her. Over the years, even after Li Minchun vanished, there had been no other woman in Jian Yiqing’s life.
“Are you talking about Li Minchun?” Jian Yiqing’s eyes narrowed into slits.
Previously, he thought it was just his imagination. Now, it seemed he was not the only one harboring such thoughts.
Su Xin really did resemble Li Minchun.
“Jian Yiqing, we should be cautious and stay vigilant,” Zhang Mi advised.
Her words indeed resonated with Jian Yiqing.
It seemed it was time to thoroughly investigate Su Xin.
