Take Me Away, My Love - Chapter 18 - The Plot
Cheng Mo, however, sneered and said, “Don’t worry, as long as her son is in our hands, we don’t have to fear her acting out.”
Hearing this, Chen Zhen was utterly deflated.
Her weaknesses were firmly grasped by Cheng Mo, just as they had been when she was coerced into working for her by using her child as leverage, and it was the same now.
Son, son, will there come a day when you grow up and can truly protect yourself? Will that day bring liberation for your mother?
Throughout this life, too many people have been wronged by me, none more so than Li Minchun and Ru Long. They treated me with sincerity, yet I hurt them.
“The young master is back!”
With the delighted voices of the servants, a car soon stopped at the entrance.
The car door opened.
A younger boy in a tight black outfit, exuding an air of hostility, appeared before everyone. Seeing this child, Chen Zhen’s eyes immediately brightened.
“Sweetheart!”
Chen Zhen eagerly rushed forward, wanting to embrace her son, but seeing the blood on her face and her already swollen cheek, Jian Ru disdainfully dodged to the side. Without casting her a single glance, he headed straight towards Cheng Duo and Cheng Mo.
Cheng Mo raised her eyebrows triumphantly at the injured Chen Zhen. With the hand adorned in crimson nail polish, she gently patted her son’s little face and said with a smile, “Just got back and must be tired. Go upstairs and find Grandpa to play.”
“Okay.”
Jian Ru nodded and headed upstairs directly.
Young as Jian Ru was, he appeared far more mature than Jian Qingtian.
If we were to compare the two young brothers, Jian Ru was the cunning and scheming type, while Jian Qingtian leaned towards being more innocent and quick-witted.
This difference could not be separated from their parents’ upbringing.
Because his own childhood was unhappy, Jian Yiqing strived to give his son a healthy and complete childhood. He didn’t require his son to be a prodigy, only hoping he could grow up healthy and happy.
“Let’s go upstairs too,” Cheng Mo said with a seductive smile, pulling Cheng Duo towards the stairs.
She didn’t forget to glance back triumphantly at Chen Zhen’s defeated face.
Although Chen Zhen was Jian Ru’s biological mother, her opportunities to see him were very limited. The only chance was during these brief moments when he returned.
But even this small wish of hers was crushed by Cheng Mo.
She didn’t know when she would see her son again. Just thinking about this filled Chen Zhen’s heart with deep sorrow.
Once they entered the room, Cheng Duo eagerly reported, “Wife, all my men are assembled. When should we take action?”
Impatient to witness their impending success, Cheng Duo was itching to get started.
Cheng Mo’s face lit up with a seductive smile. “This is something we must succeed in. Right now, many people from Madam Li’s side have been swayed by me. Even Li Minchun and Jian Yiqing have been dealt with, so there’s only Xian Cheng left. That’s just a matter of lifting a finger, isn’t it?”
Thinking about the annoying Li Minchun being finally gone, Cheng Mo was thrilled.
“But they just disappeared; they might not be dead, right?” Cheng Duo couldn’t help but feel a twinge of desire at the thought of Li Minchun’s angelic face and devilish figure.
It seemed such a shame that he might never encounter such a perfect woman again in his life.
Whether in terms of looks, figure, or intelligence, Li Minchun was a top-tier beauty.
It was a real pity that such a wonderful woman was ruined by Jian Yiqing.
Thinking about this made Cheng Duo extremely resentful. From childhood to adulthood, it seemed like every good thing always fell into Jian Yiqing’s lap, and that made him very unhappy.
Cheng Mo squinted and smiled, “Do you really think someone who’s been missing for two years could still be alive? Are you overly fixated on Li Minchun’s figure, or do you simply not trust the Mafia’s capabilities?”
“How could that be? In my heart, there’s only you. Look, you’re even getting jealous of dead people; that’s really something.”
Cheng Duo was very skilled at charming women. He could clearly understand what was on a woman’s mind and what they desired.
So, at times like these, he could respond in just the right way.
For ambitious women, they particularly enjoy the pleasure of having control.
It’s not just women who have to be conquered; men can be too.
While Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo were thriving, Chen Zhen felt isolated and lonely.
She knew something big was about to happen.
She wondered whether she should inform Madam Li so that she could prepare in advance.
After much inner turmoil, recalling Li Minchun’s death indirectly caused by her and recalling her son, Jian Ru, Chen Zhen decided to betray them.
Unfortunately, as soon as she stepped out of the room, she felt a chill down her spine. Then, a bright glint shot towards her from behind.
Reacting instinctively, she quickly dodged to the side, and darts swiftly thudded into the door in front of her.
Turning around, she indeed saw Cheng Mo’s sinister face.
Cheng Mo, holding three gleaming darts in her hand, gazed confidently at Chen Zhen and said, “Chen Zhen, do you really think you can escape from the palm of my hand?”
“Cheng Mo, what exactly are you trying to do?” Chen Zhen shouted angrily.
By now, she had reverted to her mercenary instincts, far from the timid demeanor she showed during the day.
“You know exactly what I’m doing, which is why there’s no way I’d let you leave my sight alive.” With that, Cheng Mo’s face turned cold, and the darts in her hand once again sliced through the air towards Chen Zhen’s face.
The same tactic again.
Chen Zhen easily dodged the three darts, but she overlooked one thing-it was unlikely Cheng Mo would try to kill her with darts.
In the next second, a dark gun muzzle was already aimed at her.
“Are you trying to threaten me?” Chen Zhen asked, furious.
“No, I’m just reminding you that your son is still in my hands. I wouldn’t mind having one more child’s blood on my hands. Haha,” Cheng Mo laughed maniacally, looking skyward.
These words hit Chen Zhen’s limit, prompting her to shout, “How can you do this? The boy grew up under your watch; he’s still so small, and he’s the only heir of the Shangguan Family. Do you think the Shangguan Family will let you get away with this?”
At this point, all she could do was bring up the Shangguan Family, hoping to use this trump card to intimidate Cheng Mo.
Unfortunately, the Shangguan Family of today was not what it used to be.
The Shiyu Conglomerate, under ACI International, had been hollowed out by Jian Yiqing long ago, leaving little more than an empty shell.
If not for Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo’s efforts to rescue it, the Shiyu Conglomerate might have been completely obliterated by now.
But in the current situation, Cheng Mo had no reason to concern herself with the Shangguan heir. As for Cheng Duo, he only cared about himself, and other issues were irrelevant.
“Haha, can’t believe that after all that’s happened, you’re still so naïve. It’s almost endearingly foolish.”
Cheng Mo dismissed Chen Zhen’s threats with disdain.
Smiling, she brought her devilish face close to Chen Zhen’s and asked, “My dear, do you really think you can threaten me? Not just your son, even his father doesn’t matter to me.”
Though these words were whispered closely to Chen Zhen, they dripped with endless menace. Chen Zhen couldn’t help but clench her fists, and if she stood a chance against Cheng Mo, she might have already attempted to fight back.
“Are you angry? What can you do even if you are? Your only option now is to cooperate with me, isn’t it?”
With that, Cheng Mo’s face blossomed into a bright, almost infuriatingly cheerful smile.
Despite her exasperation, Chen Zhen found herself at a loss for options.
Everything she cared about was trivial to Cheng Mo, highlighting her own weaknesses.
“Let me tell you, it’s best to cooperate obediently. Once I control the mercenary organization, it’ll be your turn to rise.”
With that, the arrogant Cheng Mo turned and headed upstairs, no longer worrying that Chen Zhen might attempt to escape. Based on her understanding, Chen Zhen was now virtually under her control.
She could finally get a good night’s sleep.
Watching Cheng Mo leave, Chen Zhen felt deflated, like a balloon that had lost its air, slumping powerlessly to the ground.
Cheng Mo was right; she truly had no standing to challenge her.
She had no other choice left.
