Taboo Mage - Chapter 94 - The Glasses-Wearing Man is Dead
After putting away the red candle, I suddenly noticed that the tourists around me were all staring at me, as if I were some kind of monster.
I was confused about what was happening when Jue Chi stepped out of the crowd and patted me on the back. Only then did I remember that I had stuck a rune on my back earlier.
No wonder they all thought I was crazy.
With the glasses-wearing man’s issue resolved, I turned to look for Du Qiang and Li Meng. Jue Chi told me they had received a phone call and left in a hurry after paying their respects.
Figuring there might be something going on at home, I decided not to worry about it and returned to the hotel with Jue Chi.
The next morning, I received a call from the police station asking me to come in and make a statement. However, the officer on the phone seemed hesitant, as if there was something he couldn’t say directly.
Upon arriving at the police station, a policeman was already waiting at the entrance. Seeing Jue Chi and me, he led me directly to the detention area at the back of the station.
There, I saw the glasses-wearing man again.
He was huddled on the bed in the detention cell, head buried in his knees, trembling uncontrollably.
“Isn’t he better yet?”
Seeing the state the glasses-wearing man was in, I couldn’t help but frown. It had been a whole day and night, and he had even witnessed the police subduing the woman. Why was he still so frightened?
The policeman furrowed his brows and said, “He’s been like this since we brought him in, and what’s worse, he keeps babbling about a female ghost trying to kill him.”
I shook my head, “It’s nothing serious. Maybe he feels guilty about being caught and is pretending to be sick to avoid responsibility.”
“Please, don’t joke about it. Mr. Cao already told us that we invited you here to see if you can help him recover. If he stays like this, the court might rule that he has mental issues, and we won’t be able to send him to prison.”
I nodded. It was indeed disheartening to capture someone so notorious, only for him to evade justice by being scared senseless.
The policeman had made things clear, and if I continued to be coy, it would seem rather pretentious. After some thought, I turned to Jue Chi and asked if he had any solutions.
Jue Chi nodded, “It can be tried.”
With those words, Jue Chi motioned for the policeman to open the door. He walked in slowly and placed the prayer beads on the glasses-wearing man’s head. The man immediately froze like a statue, motionless on the bed.
Then, Jue Chi clasped his hands together and began to recite the Sutra.
The policeman and I stood at the door, watching as the glasses-wearing man slowly lifted his head, his eyes gradually showing clarity. I felt a sense of relief and gestured for the policeman to open the door.
Sure enough, once Jue Chi retrieved the prayer beads, the glasses-wearing man looked around in confusion, then surprise and shock appeared in his eyes.
“Why am I here?”
A hint of malice flickered in the glasses-wearing man’s eyes as he growled.
I chuckled, “As a human trafficker, where else do you think you should be?”
Upon hearing my words, the glasses-wearing man suddenly stood up and took a few steps towards Jue Chi. In a flash, he produced a thin blade from behind.
The blade was pressed against Jue Chi’s throat, and the two stood at the doorway, as if frozen in time.
I tugged at the policeman standing beside me, “What are you staring at? Save him!”
“Don’t… don’t act rashly…” The policeman was clearly flustered, stammering his words before turning to make a phone call.
The glasses-wearing man smirked maliciously from the shadows, saying, “Let me out immediately, or I’ll slit his throat.”
“No!” I shouted, my eyes fixed on the glasses-wearing man’s hand, desperately thinking of a plan.
Jue Chi looked at me with calm eyes, showing no trace of emotion.
“This is a police station. Even if you make it out the door, there are armed officers waiting outside. Maybe you should think of another condition?” I forced a laugh, trying to negotiate.
The blade in the glasses-wearing man’s hand pressed harder, and a cut appeared on Jue Chi’s throat.
He grunted, speaking menacingly, “Cut the nonsense. If I can’t walk out of the police station today, I’ll take this bald monk with me!”
“Don’t do anything rash, we will meet your demands,” I was trying to calm down the glasses-wearing man when the police officer who had gone to make a call returned quickly and said.
I frowned, realizing immediately that they might be planning to lure the glasses-wearing man outside and then shoot him down.
“No tricks! Get me a plane, I want to leave immediately!”
I rubbed my temples, thinking this guy must be watching too many TV shows if he thinks a plane can just magically appear like that.
To my surprise, the police officer nodded, “Alright, we will contact a private jet immediately, but we’ll need a large open area for it to land. Will that satisfy you?”
“Fine.”
Hearing the police officer, the glasses-wearing man finally nodded in agreement.
I looked at the others in surprise, quickly running through possible strategies in my mind. A desperate fugitive like the glasses-wearing man might just kill Jue Chi at the last minute.
I needed to ensure I brought him out safely and returned him safely.
About half an hour later, the police officer received a call and informed the glasses-wearing man that a private jet had been arranged and he could come out now.
The glasses-wearing man nodded and positioned Jue Chi in front of him while he himself stayed hidden behind. The police led us out of the detention area.
As we exited, the sound of helicopter blades slicing through the air reached us. I turned to look and sure enough, a helicopter was hovering, getting ready to land.
Once the glasses-wearing man emerged, the helicopter landed steadily on an open field with no cover around. He quickly moved towards the helicopter with Jue Chi.
“Hey! You’re about to leave; shouldn’t you let him go?” I shouted as the glasses-wearing man placed one foot on the helicopter’s door.
Without a word, the glasses-wearing man kicked Jue Chi, sending him sprawling to the ground, and the helicopter began to ascend slowly.
“Get down!”
Suddenly, a voice yelled from somewhere, and I instinctively dropped to the ground, looking towards Jue Chi.
Jue Chi had rolled over onto the grass beside him, while from the helicopter’s direction, a bullet sliced through the air, hitting the glasses-wearing man squarely between the eyes.
He fell from over ten meters in the sky, twitched a few times, and then lay still on the ground.
