Taboo Mage - Chapter 92 - The Glasses-Wearing Man Appears
I sat cross-legged on the ground, chanting the Incantation quietly.
Before long, the fertility amulet began to tremble violently. The spirit within could feel the summoning and wanted to break free from the life amulet’s imprison.
I suddenly opened my eyes and reached towards Li Meng. I made a small cut on her right index finger, and the blood trickled down onto the white candle, gradually soaking the wick.
The trembling of the fertility amulet intensified as I continually chanted the Incantation without pause. Suddenly, the red string broke in the middle, and the fertility amulet fell to the ground.
The white candle opposite me lit up abruptly, with the flame flickering in the cold breeze coming through the window.
“Done!” Seeing the flickering candlelight, I felt a surge of joy. I got up from the ground and said happily.
I had now used the life amulet and the white candle to establish a connection between the spirits inside the two fertility amulets. Li Meng’s fertility amulet was stable, but from the degree of trembling, it seemed like the life amulet on the glasses-wearing man’s side was experiencing some disturbance.
Given this turn of events, I believed it would only be a matter of days before the glasses-wearing man would have to return to me with the life amulet.
After seeing Li Meng off, I had Jue Chi call Mr. Cao and asked him to contact the police in Shenyang, coordinating with them so that we could catch this utterly reprehensible glasses-wearing man!
Indeed, when luck is on your side, even walking feels like floating.
Early the next morning, before Jue Chi and I had gotten out of bed, the doorbell rang.
I got up to open the door, and standing outside was none other than the glasses-wearing man who had been missing for days. However, if I hadn’t been mentally prepared, I would not have been able to reconcile this man in front of me with the refined image of the glasses-wearing man I had in mind.
At this moment, the glasses, his most distinctive feature, were gone, and his once handsome and gentle face was now covered in dark bruises. The shirt on his upper body was torn open in several places.
The instant he saw me, he pushed me inside and shut the door tightly.
“What happened?” I frowned, looking at the glasses-wearing man. It seemed like something was chasing him, which is why he was so eager to hide inside.
The glasses-wearing man crouched behind me, whispering urgently, “Don’t speak so loudly, that thing will follow and find me…”
“What are you talking about?” Although I wasn’t sure what kind of disturbance the fertility amulet he took had caused, I couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of him.
He suddenly clamped a hand over my mouth and whispered, “Don’t speak… It can hear sounds…”
“What exactly happened? Didn’t you come to us to solve your problem?”
I kicked the glasses-wearing man away from me as he clung closely, suppressing the anger that had built up over several days. If it weren’t for waiting for the police officer, I would have beaten him up by now.
He seemed utterly terrified, just clutching my arm and sobbing, “Help me… Please, help me…”
“What on earth happened? You need to tell me if you want help.”
I watched him huddled in the corner like a frightened rat, rolling my eyes in exasperation.
Jue Chi heard the commotion and got out of bed. As the glasses-wearing man rushed in, he had just stepped out of the bathroom. He frowned when he saw him and then took the phone out to the balcony.
Suddenly, the glasses-wearing man sprang up from the corner and shouted frantically, “It’s you! You’re trying to get me killed!”
He pointed a finger at me. I controlled my temper, remembering how he caused a backlash that left me feeling weak with just a few extra steps.
Jue Chi returned from the balcony, gave me a glance, and signaled that he had contacted the police officer. For now, the priority was to keep the glasses-wearing man calm.
Thinking it over, I pulled a peachwood sword from my bag and handed it to him. “This is a treasure. As long as you have it, nothing will dare come near you.”
Upon hearing my words, the glasses-wearing man’s eyes lit up, and he grabbed the peachwood sword from my hand, clutching it as if it were a priceless treasure.
Is this guy really so scared that he’s lost his senses?
Watching the glasses-wearing man’s behavior, I couldn’t help but wonder.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang again. I thought to myself how unusually efficient the police officers were today as I reached out to open the door.
Standing at the door was a woman-the glasses-wearing man’s wife, or rather, the woman pretending to be his wife.
She wore a red dress and kept her head mysteriously lowered. When I first opened the door and saw her, I nearly fell to the floor in fright.
“Uh, are you here to see your husband?” I gathered my composure and asked awkwardly with a forced smile.
The woman slowly lifted her head and looked at me, her pupils were pitch black, like a pair of black holes.
I silently cursed and subtly gestured a signal behind my back to Jue Chi, hoping he would notice.
The woman remained silent as she scanned the room with her gaze, which then fixated on the glasses-wearing man.
Suddenly, she grinned, her lips painted with stark red lipstick, giving her an eerie appearance.
“Honey, I’ve come for you…”
As she spoke, goosebumps erupted on my arms. She brushed past me, and each step felt like it was pressing directly on my heart.
Things seemed to be escalating beyond my expectations. I originally intended for the life amulet to cause some disturbance to flush out the glasses-wearing man, but it turned out that the life amulet had not only caused a disturbance but seemed to have taken on a life of its own.
The woman appeared oblivious to everything but the glasses-wearing man. She moved past me without even turning her head, heading straight for him in the corner, toppling a couple of chairs along the way. It was clear that she was under the control of the spirit within the life amulet.
By the bathroom door, Jue Chi slowly reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of yellow talisman paper.
As the woman passed him, Jue Chi swiftly emerged from the bathroom and placed the yellow talisman paper on her back.
She paused momentarily, but then suddenly quickened her pace, extending her hands and rushing towards the glasses-wearing man.
He jumped up, frantically waving the peachwood sword in his hand, and kept muttering, “Stay away from me… stay away from me!”
