Taboo Mage - Chapter 91 - Human Trafficker
After hearing what I said, the police officer’s expression suddenly darkened. He said, “This man is a human trafficker, and he’s been active in Northeast China recently. You mentioned that little girl earlier-it’s likely she was abducted by him.”
I was startled. This man is a human trafficker? And the most shocking part is that I was unknowingly with a trafficker and an abducted child for days without noticing anything!
This realization completely changed my perspective. Anxiously, I asked, “Are you sure?”
“He’s been classified as a key target by the Shenyang Public Security Bureau. Do you think I’d make a mistake about that?” The officer snorted coldly, crumpling the photo in his hand and tearing it to pieces.
The sudden development left me unsure of how to respond. However, the officer had no intention of making things difficult for me. He just asked a few more questions related to the glasses-wearing man and then left.
As I stepped out of the police station, Jue Chi was waiting for me at the door. Seeing him, I rushed over and quickly recounted everything that had happened inside.
Jue Chi listened with a furrowed brow and, once I finished, he said, “Given this situation, him taking the life amulet must be for no good. This also explains why you experienced the backlash.”
I nodded. That jerk dared to deceive me! If I ever catch him, he’ll pay!
We returned to the hotel, ordered some takeout, and started discussing how to unearth the glasses-wearing man while eating.
Jue Chi called Mr. Cao, who agreed to contact the people at the Shenyang police station and promised to inform us immediately once they had news about the glasses-wearing man.
Meanwhile, I sat on the bed, flipping through ancient books, trying to find a way to track the owner using the life amulet.
But after searching for a long time, I still couldn’t find any clues.
I felt an unprecedented sense of frustration. It seemed like ever since I decided to come to Shenyang, nothing had gone smoothly.
Sensing my defeat, Jue Chi turned to comfort me after hanging up the phone.
“There will be a way.”
Sadly, Jue Chi sat on the sofa, thinking hard before he came up with this single sentence. I sighed, lay back on the bed, my mind continuously replaying thoughts about the glasses-wearing man.
Suddenly, I thought of something. “Jue Chi, when that glasses-wearing man came to us for the fertility amulet, didn’t he say it was because he wanted another child?”
Jue Chi nodded, looking puzzled, not understanding why I brought it up.
I chuckled, “Think about it, why would a human trafficker need a fertility amulet?”
“First, his wife might want a child. Second, he wants someone else to have a child.”
“Exactly! Ultimately, he just wants a child. And I remember mentioning back then that the fertility amulet, being pre-prepared, might have an uncontrollable spirit. So, is there a way for us to stimulate the spirit inside?”
Jue Chi frowned, contemplating the feasibility of this. However, stimulating the spirit requires the corresponding life amulet, and the only connection to that fertility amulet is with the couple Li Meng and Du Qiang.
I recalled that when I left, I intentionally saved Du Qiang’s phone number, just in case it might come in handy someday.
Thinking this, I quickly took my phone out of my pocket, found Du Qiang’s number, and dialed it swiftly.
The phone rang for a moment before Du Qiang’s familiar voice answered, “Brother Gu? What made you think to call me out of the blue?”
“Hey, sorry about that. How is everything on your end?” I laughed, considering how to ask him to lend me the life amulet.
“No worries. Actually, I have some good news for you. My wife went for a check-up a few days ago, and the doctor said there’s no problem with her recovery!” Du Qiang said excitedly.
“That’s great… Well, there’s a favor I might need from you and your wife, but I’m not sure if…”
I hesitated. Given that Li Meng’s health has fully recovered, Du Qiang is probably eager to have a child. If I ask to borrow the fertility amulet now, I wonder if they would agree.
Du Qiang readily agreed, “Just tell me what you need. If I can help, I definitely will!”
“Here’s the thing-I’m in Shenyang right now, but something’s come up, and I might need to borrow your fertility amulet for a few days.”
“Shenyang? That’s perfect! We’re actually in Shenyang too. Li Meng’s hometown is here, so I brought her back for a few days.”
After hanging up, I couldn’t help but laugh joyously at the ceiling. It seemed that fate was finally on my side, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the difficulties!
That afternoon, Du Qiang arrived at the hotel with Li Meng. Though we hadn’t seen each other for over two weeks, Du Qiang looked the same, but Li Meng seemed much more worn out than before.
It was understandable, given she had lost two children in succession, and after learning about the tragic death of her first child, the psychological blow was undoubtedly devastating for a mother like Li Meng.
When they came in, Du Qiang and Li Meng first thanked Jue Chi and me and placed some local specialties they brought on the table. After some small talk, I got straight to the point.
“Here’s the situation: there’s a jerk using a life amulet I made to harm others, causing a backlash. If I can’t find him soon, I might not make it to the New Year.”
I intentionally exaggerated the seriousness of the situation to provoke Du Qiang and the others’ anger.
Sure enough, as soon as I finished, Du Qiang was so furious that he almost flipped the table. With Li Meng holding him back, he glared and asked, “What do you need us to do? Just say the word, Brother Gu!”
“It’s actually simple; I just need the fertility amulet from Li Meng.”
Since the moment the couple walked in, my gaze had been fixed on the fertility amulet Li Meng wore. Thankfully, she followed my advice and kept it on her at all times.
As soon as I finished speaking, Li Meng immediately reached up, removed the fertility amulet from around her neck, and placed it in my hand.
With the life amulet in hand, finding the glasses-wearing man would be a breeze.
I took a red string and yellow talisman paper out of my backpack, then asked Du Qiang to go out and buy two incense candles.
I tied the red string into two slip knots, attaching one end to Li Meng’s fertility amulet and the other to a white candle. I then lit the white candle and affixed the yellow talisman paper, inscribed with runes, onto it.
