Taboo Mage - Chapter 34 - Possessed by an Evil Spirit
I finally breathed a sigh of relief, turned around, and pressed my ear against the bedroom door to listen.
The sounds of things being wrecked inside had ceased, but if you listened closely, you could still hear the man’s heavy breathing. I took a peachwood sword out of my bag and held it in my hand, then signaled Uncle Qin to open the door.
Uncle Qin glanced at Wu Qian, then stepped back and opened the door.
Suddenly, before I could react, a powerful force burst out from the bedroom. I turned to look and saw Wu Qian’s husband with disheveled hair. His face was bruised and purple, and the dark color in his eyes deepened to an inky black.
Damn! I cursed silently. It looked like the man had been possessed by something!
“It’s me, Xiao Qian. Don’t you recognize me?”
Wu Qian rushed forward and clung tightly to her husband’s waist, her beautiful face covered in tears.
The man struggled desperately, breathing heavily through his nose.
I hid in the corner and signaled for Lin Huan to throw me my bag. It was Lin Huan’s first time seeing a scene like this; his face was full of terror as he stood still, clutching my bag tightly.
Uncle Qin glared at him, then quickly walked over, snatched the bag, and tossed it to me.
I glanced over at Wu Qian. It seemed that although the man was possessed by the Evil Spirit, he still had some awareness; otherwise, he would have kicked Wu Qian aside already.
Taking advantage of Wu Qian’s effort to control the Evil Spirit, I quickly retrieved the red string from my bag.
Suddenly, the man let out a low roar, threw Wu Qian aside, and started raging, pulling at his hair. The sheer force toppled the antique shelf against the wall.
Uncle Qin hurried over to help Wu Qian up. She wanted to rush forward again but was tightly held back by Uncle Qin.
Where on earth did this Evil Spirit come from that it loves destroying things so much?
I didn’t have time to worry about that. I called out to Lin Huan for help and rushed forward with the red string. The red string had already been coated with ink line marker and glutinous rice. As soon as the Evil Spirit touched the red string, a patch of skin on his palm was burned away.
He glared at me viciously with inky black eyes from which dark energy began to emanate. Two of his fingernails started to grow rapidly at a visible speed.
I cursed silently. This was going to be tough. Looks like we have a fierce one on our hands.
I tied one end of the red string to the corner of the table and had Lin Huan hold the other end tightly. Using the red string, we cornered the Evil Spirit against the wall, and I began rummaging through my bag for the soul-capturing bottle.
It was Lin Huan’s first time assisting me with an exorcism, and he was nearly scared out of his mind, especially as he watched the Evil Spirit’s inky black fingernails continue to grow. His legs were shaking uncontrollably.
“Found it!”
I dumped out the contents of my bag and finally located the soul-capturing bottle. Shouting excitedly, I removed the cap, lit a piece of yellow talisman paper, and threw it inside. Then, I quickly moved to the Evil Spirit’s side.
Reciting the Incantation, I pointed the mouth of the bottle toward the Evil Spirit.
The Evil Spirit felt the powerful suction force and flailed its arms frantically in resistance.
Holding the peachwood sword, I thrust it towards the Evil Spirit’s chest. The Evil Spirit let out an enraged howl, and a smell of burning flesh wafted from its chest.
Seizing the opportunity, I hurled the soul-capturing bottle.
The Evil Spirit twisted its body into a bizarre position, and suddenly, a plume of black smoke rose from the man’s head. The man collapsed to the ground as the black smoke was drawn into the soul-capturing bottle.
I quickly sealed the bottle, which shook a few times before quieting down. I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Brother Kai!”
Wu Qian rushed to her husband’s side, cradling him in her arms and gently patting his cheeks.
“Don’t worry, he was just possessed by the Evil Spirit. Now that the spirit is captured, he’ll be fine in a few days,” I said, smiling to reassure her.
Wu Qian was about to speak when her eyes suddenly widened in shock. She pointed a trembling finger in my direction.
I frowned, about to ask what was wrong when the soul-capturing bottle in my hand started vibrating violently, sending painful shockwaves through my wrist. Instinctively, I threw the bottle away.
In mid-air, the bottle spun once and then exploded, releasing black smoke that spread rapidly through the room like artificial fog.
“Get down! Everyone, get down!” Uncle Qin’s voice came from an indistinguishable direction. Grabbing Lin Huan beside me, I ran towards the wall, following my instincts, and we crouched down with our heads in our hands.
In the black smoke, I felt an inexplicable chill surrounding us, like a giant hand hovering above.
“Qing Shu…”
Lin Huan, crouching behind me, tightly clutched the hem of my clothes and called out to me with a trembling voice.
I responded with a hum, knowing he was scared-but I was more terrified.
When faced with the unknown, people often struggle to overcome their inner fear. I was no different. Moreover, it was my hands that had sealed the Evil Spirit in the soul-capturing bottle.
I was certain that the one it wanted to strangle most right now was me.
“What do we do? Think of something!” Lin Huan whispered, his trembling body pressing tightly against mine.
I impatiently turned and glared at him. “Shut up…”
Before I could finish my sentence, I caught a glimpse of a black shadow quickly appearing behind Lin Huan. I sprang to my feet and yanked him to the side.
“Run!”
Lin Huan, spurred into action by my shout, darted off like a rabbit with its tail on fire. With a loud thud, he evidently lost his sense of direction and collided headfirst with the wall, bouncing off it.
I hurried over, grabbed Lin Huan, and dragged him to another corner where we crouched again.
The feeling of being trapped like fish in a barrel was nerve-wracking, similar to a rabbit ensnared in a rope, awaiting a hunter’s strike.
I had no clue where Wu Qian and Uncle Qin were, but I could palpably sense the collective fear of everyone around me.
Whooosh-
A rapid breath brushed against my ear, causing my heart to jolt. I reached back cautiously, only to realize that Lin Huan, who had been pressed against me, was nowhere to be found.
“Lin Huan?” I called out in a hushed tone.
Suddenly, I heard a sinister laugh close to my ear, “Are you calling for me?”
“Damn it!”
I shouted and bolted immediately.
“Brother Gu! Over here!”
Uncle Qin’s voice emerged from a certain direction. Without thinking, I dashed towards it.
From a distance, I could see Uncle Qin waving at me. Behind him was an open door, appearing like the beacon of hope to a drowning man. I sprinted towards it with all my might.
