I was about to ask him what was going on when Du Jun suddenly stared ahead, not sure what he was looking at.

“Boss Gu, I know I shouldn’t have lied to you back then. But I just wanted to fulfill a wish of mine. I’ve wanted to be an actor since I was a child. For this dream, I went to an art academy. After graduating, I took every opportunity to appear on screen, even if it was just playing a corpse or a background extra. But for some reason, even though I’m not worse than others, no director wants to hire me.”

“Because you were never meant to be an actor,” I leaned against the car window, unable to resist dampening his spirits.

Du Jun smiled bitterly, “Yeah, Taka told me. He said I was destined to be a small-time actor who’d never become famous. But I’m not willing to accept that! Why can everyone else do it, and I, who am better, cannot?”

As Du Jun spoke, he started to roar, his eyes reddening.

“Later, I sought out an agent myself. She was a woman in her fifties. To get the resources she had, I slept with her for a month! Do you know what kind of life I lived during that month? That old woman was as old and ugly as a toad lying naked on the bed; even thinking about it now makes me feel nauseous! But at the time, I had no choice but to do it!”

“A month later, I did get a resource, a movie by a renowned director, and that old woman recommended me to play the guard beside the male lead. Though it was not a prestigious role, it had plenty of screen time, so I agreed almost immediately. But just the day before I was to join the crew, the director suddenly informed me that a son of an investor had taken a liking to my role. He said that rich kid wasn’t interested in playing the lead, just wanted a minor role for fun…”

“It was just for fun! He snatched away something I’d fought hard for! I’m not willing to accept that!” Du Jun shouted furiously, pounding on the steering wheel with his fists.

I sneered and said, “So, you went to change your fate with a Buddha amulet?”

“Yes! That old woman told me that my lack of fame might not be due to my abilities but was a problem with my fate. She said several stars she had previously managed went to Thailand to seek a Buddha amulet and came back with a bright future, so I went to find Taka. But initially, Taka refused me, saying I would never become a star in this life.”

“He was right. Changing fate with a Buddha amulet is only a small alteration in destiny. For someone like you, it’s almost like needing to be remade entirely, so of course, he wouldn’t agree,” I nodded, saying.

Du Jun sneered, “What Buddha amulet Master? He just thought I wasn’t paying enough! So, I went back to that woman and tricked her into handing over all her savings.”

“Bastard.”

As I looked at this delicately featured man in front of me, a wave of disgust washed over me. The outcome for that woman was predictable; Du Jun just used her as a stepping stone, and once he became famous, he would likely keep away from her.

In fact, once Du Jun finally became a superstar, he had someone beat up the woman and warned her that if she dared to speak out, he would harm her son back in her hometown.

I had originally thought that by this point, Du Jun would have severed ties with the woman, but he had crazily hired someone to throw her into the sea, where her body was never found.

It seems Du Jun is not what he appears on the surface; truly, the human heart is unpredictable. I wonder how his fans would feel if they knew his true nature.

“If you’re willing to sacrifice everything to become famous, why are you suddenly willing to leave the entertainment industry? Just because you’re afraid of dying?” I questioned, puzzled.

Du Jun chuckled eerily, his eyes curving into arcs, his voice becoming colder.

“At this point, I’m not afraid to tell you why I’m leaving the entertainment industry-because as long as I’m alive, there’s always a chance I can return someday!”

“You’re insane. Don’t you know that by abandoning the Buddha amulet, your fate will revert to its original path?” I looked at the man in front of me with a cold gaze; his madness was astonishing.

Du Jun suddenly laughed loudly and shook his head, saying, “Gu Qingshu, oh Gu Qingshu, you really are naive. Don’t you understand that Thailand has more than just one Buddha amulet Master like Taka? As long as I can pay, there will be someone willing to make me a new Buddha amulet!”

I didn’t want to continue this conversation with him, so I pushed the car door open to get out. I felt nauseous just sharing the same space with him.

Suddenly, Du Jun grabbed my arm and coldly asked, “Where do you think you’re going?”

“I’m taking a cab back!” I rolled my eyes, trying to wrench my arm free and leave.

Du Jun’s grip suddenly tightened, pulling me back into the car. I turned to look at him, this handsome-faced man was now hidden in shadows, exuding an aura like a devil.

“What are you planning?”

“Boss Gu, don’t you think you know too much now?” Du Jun sneered, his face emerging from the shadows with a sinister smile on his lips.

I squinted my eyes, alarm bells ringing in my mind.

“Du Jun, I don’t remember a word of what you said tonight, and as for what you plan to do in the future, I will never interfere.”

Seeing the expression on Du Jun’s face, I knew what he was thinking. He had once pushed a woman he slept with for so long into the sea; dealing with an outsider like me would be even less of a concern for him.

Sure enough, Du Jun lowered his head with a cold laugh, suddenly taking out a pair of handcuffs and cuffing my wrist to the railing of the driver’s seat.

“Du Jun! What the hell are you doing!” I yelled angrily, wide-eyed.

Du Jun climbed out of the driver’s seat and waved at me, then pressed the autopilot button.

The car sped off rapidly. I huddled in the passenger seat, struggling to free my wrist, but without a key, I couldn’t possibly leave the seat unless I severed my hand.

The autopilot route was headed straight for the nearby river.

I finally understood why Du Jun chose to park here and why he took such a long detour back to the villa.

Because he never intended for me to return alive…

The car picked up speed, and as I watched the river’s surface fast approaching, a strange calmness began to settle over me…
