Taboo Mage - Chapter 148 - Liao Qing, the Troublemaker
“Here it comes…”
Suddenly, I heard Chi Rui’s voice by my ear. I snapped my eyes open, only to see Du Jun, who had been sitting cross-legged on the bed, suddenly open his eyes with a venomous smile on his lips and nothing but pitch-black pupils.
“Who are you?” I gritted my teeth and asked coldly.
Du Jun rose from the bed and slowly walked towards me, “You think you can capture me? Well, let’s see if you have the skills!”
He roared loudly and suddenly quickened his pace. I glanced at the puppet he was holding in his hand; the originally natural wood-colored puppet suddenly stained green.
Du Jun stepped into the red string. I jumped up and quickly walked to the mirror near the window, then shouted, “Chi Rui!”
Chi Rui responded and hurried to another mirror. Both of us simultaneously turned the mirrors, which reflected the moonlight and projected it onto two bagua mirrors.
The bright moonlight passed through the bagua mirrors, casting a yellow light that shone directly on Du Jun. He howled in pain, attempting to turn and run into a corner.
Jue Chi, who was waiting in the corner, had also opened his eyes. As Du Jun dashed towards him, Jue Chi threw his Buddhist prayer beads.
The beads accurately hit Du Jun’s forehead, but at the last moment, he dodged.
The beads fell to the ground with a crisp sound. I cursed under my breath, crouched down, and rolled over to the beads. I reached out to pick them up.
Just as my fingers touched the beads, before I could even rejoice, that damn Du Jun stepped on the back of my hand.
“Damn it! Get your foot off!” I roared, not knowing where the strength came from, I grabbed Du Jun’s leg and tripped him to the ground.
Taking advantage of this, I quickly picked up the Buddhist prayer beads and looped them around his neck.
Du Jun’s eyes widened in terror, and he desperately pulled at the beads. But as the evil spirit possessed Du Jun touched the beads, the Buddha’s light from the beads scorched his hands.
While Du Jun screamed in agony, he still couldn’t resist trying to pull off the beads.
Chi Rui pulled me up from the ground, then handed me the puppet that Du Jun had thrown onto the floor.
I quickly grabbed the puppet and sat in front of the Array made of red string, holding the dharma formula in both hands before reciting the Incantation.
The puppet bounced a few times on the ground and then, with stiff limbs, walked toward Du Jun. Seeing the puppet approaching, Du Jun backed away in horror. Suddenly, he forcefully tore the Buddhist prayer beads from his neck.
The beads scattered all over the ground, and Du Jun, getting up from the floor, kicked the puppet under the bed.
“Damn it!” I couldn’t help but curse aloud.
The puppet was meant to imprint the evil spirit out of Du Jun’s body, and now without it, I had nothing to force the spirit out.
“Chi Rui! Get under the bed and retrieve the puppet!”
At a critical moment, I shouted loudly and then pulled out yellow talisman paper and black dog blood from my pocket, throwing them at Du Jun in hopes it would temporarily fend off the evil spirit.
As expected, the black dog blood caused him to momentarily retreat several steps, cornering him right by the doorway. I glanced at Jue Chi.
Jue Chi stepped forward, took off the prayer beads that were around his neck, and approached Du Jun.
It all came down to this. If these beads were broken too, there would be no way to control the evil spirit. I stood there, silently praying.
“Mr. Gu!”
Suddenly, a loud shout came from the doorway. My eyes widened as I yelled, “Don’t you come in!”
Before my words hit the ground, the door was pushed open. Liao Qing, holding the little fox and looking scared, stood at the door and said, “Mr. Gu, the light in my room suddenly went out, I…”
“You’re nothing but a jinx!” I shouted angrily.
Behind the door, the smile on Du Jun’s face stretched wider than I had ever seen; it was the first time I saw someone split their lips all the way to the back of their head. Due to the severe tearing, his lips continuously oozed greenish blood.
Liao Qing, puzzled by the lack of response, glanced at me, then followed my gaze to his left.
The next second, a scream almost burst through the roof.
Du Jun suddenly rushed out, arms extended to strangle Liao Qing. I kicked Liao Qing aside and yelled at Jue Chi.
Jue Chi sprinted over in two steps, using his Buddhist prayer beads to tightly bind Du Jun’s hands together.
I grabbed Liao Qing by the collar, lifted him, and threw him onto the bed.
Meanwhile, Chi Rui crawled out from under the bed, dusting off the dirt on his suit while still clutching the puppet tightly.
I snatched the puppet from him and rushed to Du Jun, who was entangled with Jue Chi, chanting an incantation as I aimed the puppet at him.
The puppet trembled continuously in my hand, a searing heat flowing swiftly from the palm, spreading throughout my body as I gripped it tightly.
The evil spirit was being forcibly stripped from Du Jun’s body; his temples bulging. If it weren’t for Jue Chi’s prayer beads imprisoning his hands, he might have lunged at me the next second, tearing me to pieces.
“If you don’t let go now, Du Jun will die with me, and you’ll be a murderer!” the evil spirit suddenly spoke, its voice filled with malice.
I closed my eyes tightly, ignoring its interference.
Behind me, Chi Rui, holding a compass mirror aimed at Du Jun, scoffed and said, “You’re talking nonsense! Killing you isn’t illegal.”
“Du Jun’s spirit has merged with mine. Forcing me out of his body is indirectly killing him, isn’t it?”
“Shut up! A ghost daring to be so bold!” Chi Rui cursed angrily.
The evil spirit continued to spout threatening words. Although I had closed my eyes, I couldn’t cover my ears, and its words drilled into them like an incantation.
The exorcism incantation was nearing its end, and there was no room for error.
I opened my eyes and shouted at Chi Rui, “Stop chatting and cover my ears, damn it!”
Startled by my shout, Chi Rui stopped his idle talk, came over, and tightly held my ears.
