Taboo Mage - Chapter 134 - The Eerie Hotel
It was actually perfect timing because I had been missing the little fox lately. Without it leaping around every day, the house felt really quiet and I was starting to get a bit unaccustomed to it.
At exactly ten o’clock the next morning, the plane landed at Bangkok International Airport. It was my first time going abroad. If it hadn’t been for Du Jun by my side, I might have been in the mood to enjoy a proper vacation.
As soon as we got off the plane, Du Jun immediately made a phone call, and the person picking us up was already waiting at the airport exit. We rushed to the hotel without delay. Du Jun originally intended to go directly to the Buddha amulet master, but luckily, I was quick enough to snatch his phone away.
After a long journey, I was exhausted, my back ached, and I had no energy left to deal with that Buddha amulet master. Getting to the hotel for some sleep was the most sensible thing.
The four of us sat in the car, encountering several tour buses along the way, with people from various countries, especially groups of Chinese tourists, which almost made me feel like I was still in China.
The hotel that Du Jun booked was in the suburbs of Bangkok. When Chi Rui and I stood at the entrance, we first looked surprised and then couldn’t help but roll our eyes.
Dealing with a big star like Du Jun, even if the hotel wasn’t five-star, it should at least be clean and tidy, right? But as I looked at the dilapidated building in front of me, calling it a hotel was generous.
With its shaky door, the pile of garbage and stinking ditch at the entrance, and the burly man sitting there smoking, it looked like a shady place.
“Are you… sure we’re staying here?” Chi Rui frowned, glancing displeasedly at Du Jun standing next to him. Du Jun scratched his head and said, “Just check in for now; I’ll explain later.”
I pursed my lips, thinking that this was definitely a losing deal.
The die was cast, and I would have liked to drag Jue Chi and everyone else away, but Jue Chi, who hadn’t said a word, seemed oddly interested in the place. Stroking the little fox’s head in his arms, he stepped right in.
I couldn’t help but feel a bit of disdain for him, then pulled my suitcase and walked inside.
Although the exterior of the hotel was rather off-putting, the interior decorations weren’t bad and were at least presentable.
However, the four rooms we had originally booked were reduced to two because some unscrupulous owner sold two of them to other guests who offered a higher price.
With four people and only two rooms left, I didn’t hesitate and dragged Jue Chi into one of them, the one closest to the corner. If I had to share a room with someone, it might as well be with someone familiar.
During our trip to Shenyang, I had spent many nights sharing a room with Jue Chi.
After entering the room, I put my things down, took a shower, and planned to get some proper sleep before dealing with anything else. Jue Chi set the little fox down, and as soon as its feet touched the ground, it started bouncing around joyfully.
After I finished my shower, Jue Chi had already changed into some clothes he found somewhere, giving off a distinct Southeast Asian vibe.
Amused, I went over to tug at his clothes. Jue Chi dodged back slightly and tossed a set of clothes at me, which I caught swiftly.
“Chi Rui bought these. Dress like the locals, and things will go smoother.”
“Don’t listen to his nonsense! You know what the Chi Family is into. If they really dressed like the locals, would they wear zombie costumes when they visit tombs?”
I complained as I put the outfit on, and a squeaky sound caught my attention. I turned toward the bed and nearly burst out laughing.
The once plump and fluffy little fox was now dressed in a bikini by Chi Rui. If Uncle Lin saw it, he’d probably faint with anger.
However, the little fox seemed rather happy about it.
Getting back on track, after I finished dressing, Chi Rui knocked on the door as everyone was getting ready to go out for a bite. I had a lot to discuss with Du Jun.
It’s fair to say Du Jun showed some decency, or perhaps it was due to Chi Rui sorting him out in the room, but regardless, he finally took us to a more upscale place for our meal.
Chi Rui, being an expert, picked the most expensive items from the menu, ordered a long list, and then snapped the menu shut, turning to me and saying, “The items here are quite nice. I’ve ordered a few things that aren’t common back home, so everyone can try something new.”
“Jue Chi doesn’t eat meat,” I frowned, wanting to remind him earlier.
Chi Rui waved his hand. “I know! Jue Chi lived at my place for quite a while, I can handle this.”
I nodded as the little fox next to me was happily munching on a piece of grilled meat. I patted its head and then said, “Mr. Du, since we’re already in Thailand, I think it’s necessary for you to clarify some things.”
Du Jun looked a bit embarrassed. “Actually, I can understand if you all have grievances, considering that kind of hotel is one even vagrants wouldn’t want to stay in.”
I cursed inside, knowing full well yet still having us stay there!
“But I didn’t make you suffer for no reason. It’s just that…that hotel is a contact point for the Buddha amulet Master. If we need to find him, we have to stay there.”
“Explain in detail,” Chi Rui asked seriously.
“When I first arrived in Bangkok, someone from the Buddha amulet Master came to me and gave me a card. On that card was the name and address of the hotel we’re currently staying at. When I got to the hotel, I asked the boss, and he gave me a note with a number on it. I stayed there for several days and noticed that people in the surrounding rooms were dressed luxuriously, and each had a number. Different people would leave at night, and I later learned those leaving were going to see the Master.”
“You’re saying that this Master is so skilled that so many people line up to see him, and he even went as far as to build a hotel so you’d pay to stay in it?” I frowned.
Comparing oneself to others is infuriating; the business of this Thai Master is incredibly booming.
Chi Rui glanced at me and laughed, “No need to envy. If you’re willing, your business could be just as successful.”
