Chapter 89
Chapter 89
The tiny flower shop felt even more cramped with several extra people suddenly inside. One person had his eyes fixed on Xia Wanzhi, another on Yun Li. The two grown men did absolutely nothing, simply standing there like human standees.
They were an eyesore, but they were also exceptionally good at drawing attention.
Especially from young women.
For the first time ever, Yun Li’s shop was getting so much business from girls.
“Handsome, can I buy just one rose?” a young girl asked Jiang Baichuan shyly as she stepped forward.
Jiang Baichuan frowned.
Xie Qiyan was clearly closer to her.
Xie Qiyan arched a brow slightly and took a step back to make room. He was just about to leave when another group of girls came up together, smiling as they asked him, “Hey, handsome, how much is a bouquet of roses?”
Xie Qiyan: “…”
Knowing exactly what kind of temper those two had toward outsiders, Yun Li was terrified her flower shop’s reputation would be ruined because of them. She had no choice but to step in and greet the customers warmly. “Single roses are over here. Please come this way and take a look.”
“Different varieties of roses are priced differently. What kind would you two like?” Yun Li asked with a small smile.
The two girls stared straight at Xie Qiyan. One of them mustered up the courage to say, “Red roses, please. Could this handsome guy wrap them for us?”
Xie Qiyan: “…”
Yun Li turned her head and looked at him with amusement. “Can you? Handsome?”
Xie Qiyan did not budge an inch.
Yun Li translated on his behalf, “He’s clumsy with his hands. He doesn’t know how to wrap flowers.”
The two girls looked a little disappointed. “Isn’t he an employee here?”
The corner of Yun Li’s mouth twitched.
As if she would dare hire the CEO of Xie Corporation as an employee.
At that moment, Xie Qiyan actually answered of his own accord. “I’m here to keep my girlfriend company.”
Yun Li held back a laugh as she watched the girls’ gazes dart between her and him. She quickly waved her hands, clearing herself of any involvement. “His girlfriend is inside trimming flower stems.”
Xie Qiyan gave a cool nod, then turned and went to find Xia Wanzhi, who was peeking out and suppressing her laughter as she watched the show. He dragged a chair over, sat down in front of her, and immediately reached out to pinch both her cheeks, scolding her fiercely, “Still laughing? You were this close to getting jealous.”
Xia Wanzhi: “…”
She was innocent, truly.
These days, apparently even jealousy could be force-fed.
The other young girl had already picked out a rose. While paying, she stole several glances at Jiang Baichuan and finally couldn’t help asking Yun Li, who was wrapping the flower, “Boss, who is he?”
That stumped Yun Li.
The other two girls were curious too, but they didn’t quite dare meet Jiang Baichuan’s cold gaze. They could only tease Yun Li, “He wouldn’t happen to be your boyfriend, would he?”
The young girl instantly understood, her face full of yearning. “So that’s it. You two are so happy together!”
At last, a trace of delight appeared at the corners of Jiang Baichuan’s eyes.
Yun Li was slightly embarrassed. “No, he’s…”
“Thank you for your patronage. We look forward to seeing you again,” Jiang Baichuan said with a friendly smile.
Yun Li’s words were cut off, and she couldn’t be bothered to explain anymore. She focused on wrapping the flowers and handed them to the two girls.
Once they left, she glared at Jiang Baichuan. “Can you stop causing trouble?”
Jiang Baichuan smiled. “Did I say anything? I only very politely said, ‘We look forward to seeing you again.’ Boss’s Wife, you’re so fierce.”
Jiang Baichuan pretended to be wronged with practiced ease.
Yun Li: “…”
She had every reason to suspect he had come here specifically to make trouble.
There were still plenty of customers coming and going. Among them were quite a few young single men, as well as regulars from before. Their original intention was probably to chat up the shop owner, but after meeting Jiang Baichuan’s man-eating stare, they instinctively restrained themselves.
“So popular. Boss’s Wife really is a beauty in bloom among mortals,” Jiang Baichuan teased with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.
The sun had climbed high into the sky. October wasn’t particularly hot, and Jiang Baichuan stood leaning against the wall, sunlight falling across half his face. Yun Li couldn’t help stealing a few extra glances.
Her face remained expressionless, but her heart had already wavered a little.
Who didn’t love a handsome man?
Xia Wanzhi heard them and poked her head out slightly, chiming in, “Exactly. President Jiang, are you jealous?”
With Xia Wanzhi stirring things up, Yun Li’s breathing grew faintly unsteady. She coughed lightly and scolded, “Shut up.”
Who would have thought Jiang Baichuan would admit it openly? “Yes.”
Yes, he was jealous.
“But I’m happy for her,” Jiang Baichuan added unhurriedly.
Yun Li paused, her hands stilling as she looked at him in confusion.
The light in his eyes was utterly sincere. “Yun Li, don’t overlook how outstanding you are.”
There might be plenty of people who experienced love at first sight with her.
He was only one of them.
But he was grateful that he was one of them.
And that he had managed to stand out.
At the very least, he knew Yun Li wasn’t completely unmoved by him.
“Aww, her heart skipped a beat,” Xia Wanzhi said at just the right moment, noticing Yun Li’s reaction and livening up the atmosphere.
The matter with Liang Jing still hadn’t been resolved. No matter how much Jiang Baichuan liked her, he had to endure it for now.
Xie Qiyan picked up where Xia Wanzhi left off. “What are you getting excited about? We’re in public. Save it for when we get home.”
His words were far too easy to misunderstand. Xia Wanzhi pinched his thigh hard. “Save what? You still haven’t explained yourself. Why did you suddenly come here for no reason? Don’t you need to go to the company?”
Xie Qiyan turned his hand over and toyed lazily with her fingers, tossing out casually, “I came to ask my girlfriend on a date. Besides, it’s not like the company will stop running without me.”
Xia Wanzhi was thoroughly choked by his line about coming to ask her on a date.
Yun Li watered the flowers, then came in and immediately popped the pink bubble surrounding those two. “My place is tiny. If you two want to show off your affection, go home.”
Jiang Baichuan followed behind Yun Li with his arms crossed. “Hear that? Go home.”
He looked very much like a husband echoing his wife.
Yun Li couldn’t take it anymore and turned to chase him away. “You go home too.”
Jiang Baichuan was shameless. “I’m not going. I’m still waiting for you to treat me to a meal.”
Yun Li: “…”
If he hadn’t mentioned it, she would have forgotten. Yesterday, when they ate at that small restaurant, she’d promised to treat him next time.
“Then you two take your time chatting. President Xie and I will head out first.” Xia Wanzhi had only come over to help because she was worried about Yun Li. Now that Jiang Baichuan was here to keep her company, staying any longer would only make her feel like a third wheel.
Hands in his pockets, Xie Qiyan passed by Jiang Baichuan on his way out and gave him a roguish pat on the shoulder, his face full of sympathetic encouragement. “Work harder.”
Jiang Baichuan: “…”
When Xie Qiyan had gotten together with Xia Wanzhi, he’d bragged about it to him with just one sentence-
Mutual feelings. We clicked.
Mutual feelings, my ass.
As if he and Yun Li didn’t have mutual feelings too.
There were just a few too many stumbling blocks in the road ahead.
From where Xia Wanzhi stood, all she saw was Jiang Baichuan’s gloomy face. She reached back, dragged Xie Qiyan over, and scolded him, “Stop provoking him all the time.”
Jiang Baichuan was just about to sigh in relief that someone was speaking up for him.
Then Xia Wanzhi’s next sentence popped out. “President Jiang is pretty pitiful.”
Jiang Baichuan: “…”
Yun Li heard it and smiled helplessly, but she was too lazy to pay any attention to this childish bunch of young masters and young ladies.
She was very glad she knew them.
