Chapter 107
Chapter 107
One simple “Madam President” was enough to scare off the receptionist who had been about to come forward and ask questions. But when she left, her eyes were shining with the glow of someone who had just stumbled onto major gossip.
It was the first time Xia Wanzhi had ever heard that title used for her. She raised a brow slightly, but at the same time, she tacitly accepted it.
She was already tired of being called Eldest Young Miss and Little Princess. Thanks to Xie Qiyan, she might as well try being Madam President for a change, just to amuse herself.
Seeing that their future Madam President had accepted the way he addressed her-and even nodded slightly at him-Yu Fei was practically beside himself with joy. After stepping out of the elevator, he and Huo Yang watched her go in. Only when the elevator doors closed did Yu Fei smugly bump Huo Yang’s shoulder. “See that? Everyone likes a sweet talker.”
Huo Yang rolled his eyes at him and strode off to take care of the real work.
As for Yu Fei, he was already thinking that his bonus this month was looking promising.
“Madam President, huh?” Xie Tan held Xia Wanzhi’s hand and teased her with a grin.
The entire Xie Family already knew about the last time Xie Qiyan had gone with Xia Wanzhi to the UK to meet her family. That alone proved that good news was coming soon.
It was fine when someone addressed her properly, but the moment it turned into teasing, a faint blush spread across Xia Wanzhi’s cheeks. Embarrassed, she pinched Xie Tan’s face. “No talking.”
It was rare to see Xia Wanzhi shy. Although Xie Tan obediently shut her mouth, she kept secretly giggling.
She was giggling because her Sister Wanzi and her Big Brother were very happy together.
Xie Tan’s mission was to bring Xia Wanzhi smoothly and unhindered to the President’s Office. As for whatever surprises and scenes unsuitable for children might come after that, she was not particularly interested in seeing them.
Huo Yang and Yu Fei had both gone out, so no one was there to open the door to the CEO’s office for Xia Wanzhi from the outside. She could only knock herself.
Xie Qiyan could control the door from inside. The door opened automatically, and Xia Wanzhi first poked her head in to see what he was doing.
The diligent and dedicated President Xie thought it was one of his employees coming in. He did not even lift his eyes. As always, his face was stern and serious as he read some document. His sharp brows relaxed slightly, only to knit together again a moment later.
Xia Wanzhi stared at him, entranced.
She had almost forgotten that before she fell for him, this was exactly how Xie Qiyan had been in her mind-cold and indifferent.
Who could have imagined that this man before her was cold on the outside but warm within?
Perhaps sensing that no one had come in after so long, Xie Qiyan lifted his head. His icy gaze collided at once with the soft light rippling in Xia Wanzhi’s eyes.
Ice met warmth and slowly melted.
Xie Qiyan was surprised that she had come.
And she had appeared before him so suddenly, without him knowing a thing, instantly brightening his eyes.
“Surprised?” Xia Wanzhi was still standing in the doorway. She leaned slightly inside, head tilted, and lifted the insulated food container in her hand.
Xie Qiyan touched his nose, set aside the work in his hands without hesitation, and walked over to welcome her. With a touch of arrogant smugness, he asked, “Missed me?”
Pulling Xia Wanzhi inside, Xie Qiyan pressed the button to close the door. At the same time, he took the food container from her hand and wrapped an arm around her, pressing her back against the door.
Neither of them answered the other’s question. Xie Qiyan lowered his head, found her soft lips, and captured them at once. He kissed and nipped at her for a while, not letting go until she was breathless. Then, with the tip of his nose against hers, he murmured tenderly, “Very surprised. I love it. I’ve fallen completely. I love you to death.”
Xia Wanzhi gave him a reproachful sound and balled her hand into a fist, thumping him on the chest. “Smooth talker. Who missed you? My sixth sense clearly told me that you missed me, so I came.”
To prevent him from saying more things she could not handle, Xia Wanzhi pushed at him. “I brought pork rib soup. Drink some with me.”
Xie Qiyan weighed the food container in his hand, then smiled and brushed another feather-light kiss against her lips.
She was shy, but she still did whatever she wanted to do to him. Xie Qiyan truly loved her to death.
“Mm, I really did miss you. I didn’t expect you to actually sense it.” Xie Qiyan led her by the hand to sit on the sofa in the reception area. As he opened the food container, he sighed. “I didn’t expect it to be true.”
That piqued Xia Wanzhi’s curiosity. “What is true?”
“They say that when a married couple kisses enough, they develop a telepathic connection.” Xie Qiyan stopped what he was doing and looked at her, saying with perfect seriousness, “Teacher Wanzi has completely proven that saying correct.”
Xia Wanzhi: “…”
They were still only dating, yet he had deliberately mentioned a married couple. It felt like a hint.
After Xia Wanzhi pinched him several times, Xie Qiyan finally stopped teasing her.
With what little strength she had, Xie Qiyan could take it just fine.
After finishing the soup, Xia Wanzhi stayed a while longer. Not wanting to disturb Xie Qiyan’s work, and too embarrassed to keep Xie Tan waiting outside for too long, she took the initiative before leaving, leaned in, and pecked him on the lips. Then she abandoned the lunchbox and left.
Because of Xia Wanzhi’s little surprise, Xie Qiyan was in a good mood the entire day. Occasionally, when he got so busy he lost track of time, he would look up and see the lunchbox Xia Wanzhi had left behind. His lips would curve despite himself, and after checking the time, he would start thinking about getting off work and going home as soon as possible.
When he had a free moment, Xie Qiyan saw the lunchbox again. This time, he couldn’t help laughing as he picked up his phone and sent his girlfriend a message: “Teacher Wanzi, did you leave the lunchbox here on purpose so I’d think of you every time I saw it?”
Xia Wanzhi replied three minutes later: “Think of what? I’m going shopping with Xie Tan. Carrying the lunchbox around would be inconvenient.”
Xie Qiyan: “…”
It was fine. He would pretend he hadn’t seen that.
Xia Wanzhi was definitely playing little tricks to make him miss her.
After successfully convincing himself of that, Xie Qiyan went back to work.
Later that evening, Xia Wanzhi and Xie Tan went to Yun Li’s flower shop. They also brought a lot of delicious food and turned the place into a private little dinner spot.
Yun Li ate with great relish while complaining in disgust, “Anyone who didn’t know better would think this was a floral snack shop.”
Xie Tan swung her little legs, eating so happily her head bobbed from side to side. “That’s not a bad idea.”
The corner of Yun Li’s mouth twitched. She warned Xia Wanzhi not to bring food over next time. Not only would the smell cling to the flowers, but she herself couldn’t resist the temptation either.
After all, good food should never be turned down.
Once Xia Wanzhi was full, she wiped her mouth. “Didn’t your mom sign up for a tour to clear her head? When is she coming back?”
It was precisely because she had heard about this that Xia Wanzhi had brought food over to celebrate with Yun Li in secret.
Although the weather was cold, business at Yun Li’s flower shop was still good. Yun Li wanted to make money, so she almost always went home only at nine o’clock at night.
It was a little hard to ask her out for a meal, so Xia Wanzhi had taken the initiative and brought the food to her.
Yun Li glanced at the itinerary Yun Meilan had sent her and said flatly, “In a week.”
“That’s pretty good. She can go relax, see the world, and broaden her horizons, so she doesn’t keep wasting all her time on you,” Xia Wanzhi grumbled.
Yun Li burst out laughing. “It’s fine. I’ve already stood back up.”
After she fell out with Liang Jing, a rift had formed between her and Yun Meilan as well.
Whether Yun Meilan had reflected on herself or realized that when her own daughter truly turned against someone, she could be ruthless too, she really hadn’t been trying to control Yun Li lately.
When close friends gathered, they could talk about anything. As they chatted, Xia Wanzhi observed Yun Li’s expression, then lowered her voice and asked, “Liang Jing is already done for. Isn’t it time you gave Jiang Baichuan a chance?”
Yun Li paused, then smiled without saying anything.
There really was nothing left between her and Liang Jing now. But Liang Jing cared a lot about saving face, and she had no idea what he had said to other people. Now, anyone who knew both her and Liang Jing would secretly gossip behind her back, saying she must have done something to wrong Liang Jing and had been dumped by him.
Liang Jing had never come to see her.
But Liang Jing’s friends had come to her shop to buy flowers.
Since it was all baseless, Yun Li didn’t see any need to explain.
But of course, she still felt uncomfortable about it.
Seeing that she wasn’t speaking, Xia Wanzhi’s face darkened, and she insisted on getting to the bottom of it.
Unable to out-stubborn her, Yun Li had no choice but to tell her the truth.
Only, right after she finished speaking, Xia Wanzhi didn’t get angry. Instead, she smiled and raised her hand to greet someone at the door.
Yun Li turned around stiffly, and sure enough, she saw Jiang Baichuan standing there in a black coat. “…”
“Tan Tan, let’s go home.” Xia Wanzhi hooked an arm around Xie Tan’s shoulders. As she left, she gave Jiang Baichuan’s arm a heavy pat. “The woman you like has been slandered. Handle it.”
Yun Li and Liang Jing had already fallen out, so Xia Wanzhi no longer had to hold back like before and refrain from going after Liang Jing. If Jiang Baichuan didn’t step up, then she would stand up for Yun Li herself.
Jiang Baichuan nodded. “Thank you.”
Yun Li: “…”
She glared at him in annoyance, helpless. “What are you thanking her for?”
The flower shop faced the wind, and Jiang Baichuan’s nose was a little red from standing outside listening to them talk. When he walked in and stopped in front of Yun Li, he exhaled a warm breath. “For giving me the chance to play the hero and save the beauty.”
Yun Li: “…”
Although she was speechless, she still poured him a cup of hot tea.
