Chapter 7
Cheng Qianyi laughed again.
“Sister, which man told you the news today?”
After speaking, she switched to a sweet smile: “President Xu, I’m sorry, this was supposed to be a confidential meeting between the two companies.”
She stood up to pour wine for Xu Qingye: “It’s funny, this President Lin is my sister.”
“My sister likes to go against my dad in everything, but she doesn’t have any real ability.”
“Do you know what she relies on? Men.”
Xu Qingye frowned, casually tossing what he was holding onto the table with a startling noise.
I gripped the proposal tightly in my hand, listening to Cheng Qianyi’s mockery.
My self-esteem was thrown to the ground and trampled on.
But this cooperation is truly important to me.
So important that it determines whether I can break free from Cheng Cheng’s suppression and become someone with real dignity.
Assistant Fan grabbed my elbow: “Miss Lin, please leave.”
I clung to the back of the chair, thinking of Liang Siyue, who had stayed by my side through countless days and nights.
Thinking of every glass of strong liquor I drank to keep a client.
And imagining the radiant version of myself after success.
I met Xu Qingye’s gaze, utterly sincere:
“President Xu, please give me a chance. Take a look at the proposal I’ve prepared. If, in the end, I truly am not as capable, I will admit defeat.”
Xu Qingye’s eyes fell on Assistant Fan’s hand gripping my elbow, and he irritably loosened his tie.
Cheng Qianyi’s disdainful voice rang out again:
“Sister, aren’t you tired of using these tricks?”
“At nineteen, you lured some wild man home to defy Dad. At work, you rely on men to get all your resources. And now, you’re trying to win sympathy with this pitiful act?”
She’s still young, spoiled by Cheng Cheng, and dares to say anything at the dinner table.
At fifteen, she made a mistake and was sent away by Cheng Cheng, but she still hasn’t changed her bad habits.
She had never met Xu Qingye, only heard that one year, the person I brought home beat up Cheng Cheng.
So naturally, she had no idea who the so-called wild man she mentioned really was.
I gritted my teeth as Assistant Fan pulled me along.
I’m not a gambler.
But at this point, I have no choice but to take a gamble.
To bet that Xu Qingye, in the end, will soften toward me one more time.
