Chapter 6
About three days later.
Manager Li had almost refused every attempt our company made to set up a meeting.
Maybe it was because my assistant and I had gone back and forth so many times.
Manager Li’s secretary finally relented.
Not long after that dinner, Manager Li was dragged into a small alley, and his left hand was nearly crippled.
Manager Li’s secretary gave me a deep look.
“Mr. Xu is very capable, and he’s just as skilled at tormenting people. Manager Li’s left hand may well be ruined.”
“Miss Lin, with such a powerful backer, why humble yourself by working with us?”
I was speechless.
Mr. Xu.
Who else could it be?
About an hour later, Liang Siyue dropped me off at Yujin Mansion.
After years of struggling, I had built up some connections.
It was said that Xu Corporation’s headquarters had sent a young and promising executive to meet with Cheng Corporation’s project team at Yujin Mansion.
Before this, Xu Corporation had always leaned toward choosing Cheng Corporation.
That Cheng Corporation, belonging to my beastly stepfather.
So I had settled for approaching Manager Li instead.
Now that Manager Li refused to see anyone, the only hope for my company’s revival was Xu Corporation.
When I pushed open the door, everyone in the room turned to look at me.
Cheng Qianyi was there too; she let out a giggle.
“Sister, you’re late.”
I looked at the man sitting at the head of the table.
For some reason, I felt relieved – it was him, just as I’d expected.
Xu Qingye was dressed in a black suit; his tie was the navy blue I liked, and he was silently flipping through the proposal in his hands.
He didn’t even lift his head at my arrival.
“Xu Qingye…”
“Assistant Fan, please ask anyone not involved to leave.”
That coldness was just like the ruthlessness he’d shown that day.
He said, “Miss Lin, once you walk out this door, we’re strangers from now on.”
Assistant Fan approached, and I gripped the back of my chair tightly.
“Xu Qingye…”
Xu Qingye finally looked up at the sound of his name, his eyes even colder, full of displeasure.
I swallowed the words I was about to say and changed how I addressed him:
“President Xu.”
