SOLD to My Ex: A Forbidden Service Contract - Chapter 10
The doctor left, and I stood at the end of the hallway, staring blankly at the glass door of the hospital room.
Inside, he lay with his eyes closed, having lost a lot of weight, his face so pale it was almost translucent.
How could he be so weak? I thought he was a madman, a sugar daddy who could dominate me even in his frenzy.
But now, he was even struggling to wake up.
A nurse came out of the room and whispered a reminder, “He’s still running a high fever, he might talk in his sleep… he keeps calling out a name.”
I knew what name it was. It was mine. I leaned against the cold wall, my mind a blank slate.
If I had turned back sooner… would he have ended up in the hospital?
I knew him too well.
On the surface, he was glamorous and arrogant, but in reality, he never said anything… he shouldered everything himself.
He would hide “I miss you” behind “add more money,” and “don’t go” behind “I’ll kneel.”
Even when he was sick, he would pretend not to care. But now, it seemed like he couldn’t hold on any longer.
At three in the morning, I finally walked into the hospital room.
He was still unconscious, with an IV in his arm, his lips chapped, and his breathing rapid.
I stood by the bed, a sudden tightness in my chest. I gently sat down and looked at him, my eyes slowly turning red.
“How many times do you want me to forgive you…” I whispered. “Are you planning to trade your life for it this time?”
He didn’t answer.
But the next second, a tear slowly rolled down from the corner of his eye.
I felt as if I had been slapped, completely stunned.
So he could cry too?
I thought he was crazy, ruthless, and as explosive as a bomb. But it turned out he could feel pain, he could be afraid, and he was so scared that he could only secretly call my name in his unconscious state.
I took his hand, my voice trembling. “Zhou Yan, when did you become so bad at asking for help? You used to be pretty good at threatening me.”
“You talk about adding money, about imprisonment, about relationships having clauses. Why don’t you keep talking?”
I lowered my head, pressing his hand to my cheek, feeling its faint warmth, and my tears finally broke free.
“Were you… just too scared to say you regretted it? You were just afraid that if you said it, I would really leave.”
I cried for a long time, until my throat was hoarse.
Just before dawn, he suddenly let out a faint gasp.
I immediately looked up. His eyelashes fluttered, and he slowly opened his eyes. When he saw me, it was as if he was dreaming of something incredible.
His voice was so faint it was almost inaudible. “…You came?”
My eyes welled up, but I managed a smile. “Yes, I’m here.”
His throat felt like it was on fire. “I thought… you wouldn’t come back.”
I stared at his familiar yet haggard face, and my heart clenched painfully. “If you get a fever like this again, I really won’t come back.”
He gave a bitter smile and reached out to touch my hair, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “Then I won’t get a fever anymore. You can be the one to burn me up.”
I cursed him, “Aren’t you fucking crazy? Show me how crazy you can be.”
His eyes were a little wet, but he smiled. “I’ll show you how crazy I can be… but you have to stay by my side to watch. Actually, I bought that club later. I knew you needed money. But I couldn’t stand anyone else touching you.”
I couldn’t help but lower my head and kiss the wound on his palm.
It wasn’t an agreement. It was a moment of weakness. And… a true forgiveness.
