Chapter 168
Chapter 168
After leaving the R&D Department, Old Master Di headed straight for Di Shijing’s office.
Without waiting for anyone to announce him, the old man pushed the door open and walked in.
Hearing the commotion, Di Shijing looked up from behind his desk and immediately spotted the bag in the old man’s hand.
“What are you carrying?” he asked.
Old Master Di looked smug. “Aromatherapy oils Little Nan blended for me. She said they help with sleep. There are three bottles in total, and they’re all for me-none for you!”
He placed special emphasis on those last few words.
Di Shijing gave a faint response. “Oh.”
He didn’t seem particularly interested.
Seeing that he hadn’t managed to make his grandson jealous, Old Master Di leaned over the desk, pulled the oils out of the bag, and flaunted them. “You’ve never received a scent blended by the Girl, have you? I’ll be merciful and let you have a sniff! Compared to those Perfumers you hired for the R&D Department at such high prices, her skill level is leagues ahead!”
Di Shijing played along and took a bottle to smell it.
Each bottle had a different scent.
They were indeed unique and sophisticated.
In just those few moments, he felt his mind-which had been cluttered with various data and spreadsheets-suddenly sharpen and clear.
Without a second thought, Di Shijing tucked one of the bottles into a drawer. “With so many bottles, you probably won’t finish them anytime soon. The scent will degrade if kept too long, so I’ll help you use this one.”
Stunned by this act of ‘highway robbery,’ the Old Master was aghast. “Did I say I was giving it to you? The Girl blended these specifically for me! Give it back!”
Di Shijing remained unmoved. He casually picked up a document to review, turning a deaf ear to the old man’s displeasure.
Old Master Di was practically laughing from anger. “Look at you! Resorting to theft for a bottle of aromatherapy! If you had treated her even a little bit better back then, it wouldn’t have ended in a divorce! If the two of you were still together, wouldn’t you have all the scents you wanted?”
Di Shijing pursed his lips and said nothing.
Old Master Di couldn’t be bothered to scold him anymore. He quickly tucked the remaining two bottles away, fearing that if he were too slow, they would also fall victim to his grandson’s predatory hands.
Once the items were secured, Old Master Di finally asked, “Is there a result from the investigation into this morning’s incident? What’s the situation with Nan Wanyue?”
“Not sure, I didn’t ask. The surveillance footage has been pulled, though,” Di Shijing replied nonchalantly.
Hearing this, Old Master Di immediately said, “Where is it? Let me see.”
Di Shijing pushed his laptop over. A video was already playing on the screen.
Before the Old Master arrived, Di Shijing had already watched it countless times.
Starting from the beginning, Old Master Di watched it once and chuckled. “With the tiny amount of force the Girl used, she couldn’t even push over a three-year-old!”
His meaning was clear: he was practically saying outright that Nan Wanyue was playing tricks.
After speaking, the Old Master noticed Di Shijing hadn’t responded. He couldn’t help but frown. “You didn’t actually fall for Nan Wanyue’s acting, did you?”
Di Shijing was somewhat speechless. He looked at his grandfather helplessly. “Do I look like someone with such poor eyesight?”
“Yes!”
Old Master Di answered without a moment’s hesitation. “I’ve always wanted to take you to an eye doctor to see what’s wrong with you-how you could discard a precious treasure and tie yourself to a piece of scrap stone instead.”
After belittling his grandson, he pointed at the screen again. “Look at this scrap stone’s acting. She wouldn’t even qualify as an extra in the entertainment industry!”
Di Shijing found his grandfather’s remarks amusing.
“You certainly know a lot, old man.”
“Don’t change the subject.”
The Old Master glared at him, then fixed his gaze back on the screen. His tone grew heavy as he said, “Look at the Girl, with her guard up like that… Oh, my heart just aches for her!”
“Years ago, when Nan Wanyue fell down the stairs, there were no cameras in that spot. Everyone said the Girl pushed her. Back then, she was isolated and helpless, standing there alone trying to explain herself, but no one would listen.”
“Later, after you two got married, she often came to the old manor to visit me. Those years spent together made me certain that she isn’t that kind of person.”
“And yet, gossip is a fearful thing…”
Recalling those past events, the Old Master felt even more heartache for Nan Zhiyi. A trace of bitterness welled up in his sharp eyes. “During those years, everyone was unkind to her. It’s a blessing Girl was strong; otherwise, she might have turned out poorly.”
Because of Nan Zhiyi’s experiences, Old Master Di felt deeply troubled. Consequently, his attitude toward how his grandson should handle the current situation was very clear.
“You must handle today’s matter properly for me! Do exactly as Girl said-post that video in the employee group and clear her name! Otherwise, I’ll act as if I don’t have a grandson like you!”
Old Master Di’s tone was resolute.
Di Shijing didn’t respond, but he felt as if something were tugging at his heart, a dense, stinging pain slowly spreading through him.
…
On Nan Zhiyi’s side, she prepared to start working after the Old Master left.
All the members of Research Lab 2 were curious to the extreme about the relationship between Nan Zhiyi and the Di Family.
However, they weren’t very familiar with Nan Zhiyi, so it wasn’t easy to ask.
Only Lin Zhizhi was undeterred. She immediately leaned in and asked, “Miss Nan, how did you do it? How did you get the Old Chairman to treat you so specially? I feel like he treats you like his own granddaughter. Are you and the President… really in that kind of relationship?”
Seeing her gossipy expression, Nan Zhiyi couldn’t help but find it amusing. “What are you imagining? Di Shijing and I… aren’t in that kind of relationship. As for Grandpa Di, he was good friends with my grandparents. He truly does look upon me as his own granddaughter.”
Lin Zhizhi had a sudden realization. “No wonder! You really are a hidden big shot in our company! It looks like I’ll have to cling to your coattails from now on!”
Amused by her, Nan Zhiyi nodded and said, “Sure, I’ll let you cling!”
Then, mentioning what happened in the cafeteria at noon, her heart warmed slightly as she said, “About noon… thank you for speaking up for me. If you don’t mind, just call me by my name from now on. Don’t call me Miss Nan.”
Lin Zhizhi readily agreed. “Alright! Zhiyi!”
After saying it once and finding it rolled off the tongue quite well, she continued, “You’re being too polite! I was just telling the truth! Setting aside the fact that Nan Wanyue and I don’t get along, anyone with eyes could see that it wasn’t your fault! Nan Wanyue was just acting like a drama queen and threw herself down.
“I just couldn’t stand the sight of it… Of course, if I had known you had the Old Chairman and the President backing you up, I wouldn’t have joined the fray.”
Nan Zhiyi shook her head.
Perhaps Lin Zhizhi didn’t understand that for her former self, who had once been isolated and helpless, even a single word of defense was incredibly precious.
Therefore, she truly wanted to thank her.
Unaware of this, Lin Zhizhi continued to gossip, “How do you think the higher-ups will handle the aftermath of this? The President should release the video like you said, right?”
Without a second thought, Nan Zhiyi replied, “He probably won’t.”
Currently, Di Shijing was the one in power at Di Corporation, and Nan Wanyue was a Director. If the video were released, the impact would likely be negative.
Grandpa Di might favor her unconditionally.
But Di Shijing might not.
However, not long after Nan Zhiyi finished speaking, her colleagues nearby suddenly cried out in surprise as if they had discovered something.
“What’s going on? Don’t you know it’s working hours? What are you shouting about?”
Hearing the noise, Lin Zhizhi immediately turned her head and gave a sharp reprimand.
One colleague was very excited and blurted out, “Deputy Director, Miss Nan, the video from the cafeteria at noon has been posted to the internal employee group!”
“Go look, quickly! This time, Nan Wanyue is facing a ‘public execution.'”
Another colleague chimed in.
Upon hearing the news, Lin Zhizhi immediately pulled out her phone.
A moment later, she indeed saw the video in the work group.
The sender was Zhou Yi!
And Zhou Yi only took orders from Di Shijing!
