seven-year itch - Chapter 2
“Honey, what are you doing here?”
Jiang Wan’s voice interrupted my thoughts.
It was only then that I noticed Zhou Qing had already gone back to the fitting room to change into her work attire.
I withdrew my gaze and turned to look at Jiang Wan, who had clearly taken great care in dressing up.
How should I put it?
Once you notice someone’s flaws, no matter who they are,
the moment you see them, you can’t help but think of those flaws.
And then, you magnify them endlessly.
Just like now.
Jiang Wan was wearing a cinched-waist trench coat. She had a tall figure and had even chosen to wear high heels today-those with extremely thin heels that exuded elegance.
To anyone who didn’t know her, it would be impossible to tell that she was a woman whose figure had been completely ruined after giving birth-a plain, aging housewife.
But as I looked at her, meticulously dressed as she was, all I could think about was how she looked every morning: disheveled, greasy-faced, utterly unkempt.
It was enough to stir an involuntary sense of disgust.
However, my upbringing kept me from revealing the true thoughts buried deep within me.
At this moment, beyond my aversion to Jiang Wan’s changed figure, there was also a faint trace of nervousness.
The kind of nervousness that came from worrying she might notice something between Zhou Qing and me.
I straightened up, sitting upright, and responded to Jiang Wan’s question in an unhurried tone.
“Isn’t there a banquet tonight? I was planning to bring Assistant Zhou along.”
“Didn’t we agree that I would accompany you?”
Jiang Wan frowned as she looked at me.
For a moment, I wasn’t sure what kind of expression I should use to face her.
So, I lowered my head, scrolling through my phone, and replied in a calm tone.
“Tonight’s banquet will be very dull. It’s mostly business owners attending, and they’ll probably talk about work. If I bring Assistant Zhou, she can help me handle some of it and also get a better understanding of the market.”
“If you come along, I’ll have to take care of you.”
“If I end up not managing either side well, wouldn’t that just create more trouble?”
