At that moment, a voice came from behind the crowd of onlookers.
“Excuse me, please make way. Police business.”
Hearing this, the crowd quickly parted to clear a path.
Liang Chen led the police through the throng and stopped in front of Gu Yan.
The onlookers were like squirrels darting between melon patches, hopping from one juicy piece of gossip to the next.
It was a spectacle too overwhelming to take in all at once.
And for Gu Yan and Hu Feier, who were at the center of it all, it was nothing short of chaos.
Just as one storm seemed to subside, another was already brewing.
“Mr. Zhou and Ms. Hu, is that correct? You are being accused of illegally transferring funds. Please come with us.”
At this, the last thread of Gu Yan’s composure snapped.
He clutched Yu Shenshen’s hand, but his grip slackened as his strength gave out.
Hu Feier, on the other hand, lifted her gaze to look at Liang Chen standing before her.
Tears streamed down her face, her despair evident.
Her voice trembled as she asked Liang Chen, “You… you betrayed me… for her?”
Liang Chen’s expression was ice-cold.
In that moment, he didn’t even spare Hu Feier a proper glance.
He simply replied indifferently, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
It was only after the police took Gu Yan and Hu Feier away that Liang Chen’s expression softened.
He walked over to me, his hand reaching out to rest on my shoulder in an attempt to comfort me.
“Are you okay?”
Just as the words left his mouth, another police officer stepped forward toward us.
“Mr. Liang, I’m going to have to ask you to come with us as well.”
Liang Chen frowned in confusion. “Officer Chen, I’ve already told you everything I know.”
“Is there something else you need my assistance with?”
“This isn’t about assistance. You are also a defendant in this case.”
