Chapter 14
But Chen Yinan didn’t know that those billions were rightfully mine.
Yuan Chen’s father and my father were old colleagues. Both worked at the research institute, but during that era, entrepreneurship was encouraged, so Mr. Yuan resigned and started his own company.
Later, the company grew to a certain scale, but due to technical reasons, it could never compete with other major firms.
The year I graduated, my father introduced me to Yuan Chen. He was handsome, wealthy, and courteous, the ideal partner pursued by many women.
Yet, he was deeply devoted only to me.
After our engagement, my father was diagnosed with kidney cancer. My mother had passed away early, and I was overwhelmed. Yuan Chen took it upon himself to visit my father in the hospital every day, caring for him with a diligence that surpassed even professional caregivers.
Before my father passed away, he entrusted all his life’s research to Yuan Chen, with the condition that he marry me and take care of me for the rest of my life.
After we married, with the technological upgrades, Yuan Chen’s company began to advance rapidly.
But in just eight years, he wanted to break his promise.
I warned Chen Yinan, “You wouldn’t be foolish enough to let Yuan Chen know I came to see you, right?”
Chen Yinan shook his head vigorously, “Of course not!”
“Good, then wait for my news.”
With that, I picked up my bag and left the café.
Outside, a light rain had started to fall, and the sky was overcast.
I hailed a cab and headed straight to Yuan Chen’s company.
