Reborn in the 80s: Divorced and Spoiled by the Military Man - Chapter 146
Chapter 146: Xiaowei Has Two Red Moles Too?
On her third day of night school, Xie Yunshu finished organizing the data from the blueprint. During the break between classes, she took the opportunity to go find Professor Li.
Professor Li was a professor in the architecture department at Haicheng University. His teaching at the night school was part of the country’s efforts to cultivate talent, but there were not many students in architectural design. Quite a few of them were like Ji Siyuan-either they had failed to get into university and had been forced in by their families, or they were already working and had come to improve their academic qualifications.
Most of the students were men, and the age gap was considerable. Some were in their forties or fifties, while others were only in their twenties. A young girl like Xie Yunshu stood out especially.
However, Xie Yunshu had enrolled with a letter of introduction from Shen Subai, so Professor Li had paid a little extra attention to her. He had not expected this young girl to come to him with a blueprint after only three days of classes.
He adjusted the glasses on the bridge of his nose, somewhat skeptical. “You drew this yourself?”
In order to better extract the information from the blueprint, Xie Yunshu had redrawn Li Shengli’s blueprint herself according to scale. Hearing Professor Li’s question, she felt a little nervous, but she was still full of courage as she handed over her notebook as well. “This is the data I organized. Professor Li, could you help me take a look and see if there are any mistakes?”
She had not even finished the basic courses, yet she was already impatient to start drawing blueprints. To Professor Li, this was no different from someone trying to run before learning how to walk-eager for quick success and blindly overconfident.
Since the other party was a young girl, he did not say anything too harsh, but his expression still darkened slightly. “There can be no mistakes at all in the data on architectural blueprints. If you truly want to learn, then first master the fundamentals before anything else.”
If it had been someone thin-skinned, they would already have flushed bright red, hugged the blueprint to their chest, and left.
But Xie Yunshu did not leave. She knew Professor Li meant no harm. As a teacher, he naturally hoped his students would learn step by step. Besides, she had come to ask about the blueprint in the first place because she needed help.
So she spread the blueprint and notebook out on the desk. “Professor Li, then test me on the fundamentals. If I get even one question wrong, I’ll take the blueprint back right away.”
This time, it was Professor Li’s turn to be stunned. Was this girl a little too confident?
Seeing that Xie Yunshu did not avoid his gaze and instead looked at him calmly, Professor Li’s expression eased a little. Intending to teach her a lesson, he opened with a topic they had not yet covered. “The main differences between a frame structure and a shear wall structure in building construction.”
Xie Yunshu did not pause to think. She answered directly, “A frame structure is a load-bearing system mainly composed of beams, columns, and other components. Its spatial layout is relatively flexible, but its lateral stiffness is comparatively low…”
Professor Li was somewhat surprised. He continued, “In architectural design, how should issues of natural lighting and ventilation be considered?”
Xie Yunshu answered steadily, “For natural lighting, one must consider factors such as the building’s geographical location, orientation, and surrounding environment…”
He asked several more questions in succession, and Xie Yunshu gave the answers word for word. This time, the other teachers in the office looked at her differently.
At last, a smile appeared on Professor Li’s face. “We haven’t covered these things yet. How do you know them?”
Xie Yunshu was a little embarrassed. “I like this subject, so I often go to Xinhua Bookstore to read.”
The bell for the second class rang. Professor Li finally picked up the blueprint. “I’ll find time to look at it tomorrow.”
When she returned to her seat, Ji Siyuan leaned over. “Where did you go?”
Ji Siyuan had not slept in class today. Instead, he had sat properly in his seat and listened to the lecture. He had originally planned to chat with Xie Yunshu during the break, but as soon as class ended, she had disappeared.
Xie Yunshu shot him a glance. “Don’t interrupt me while I’m studying.”
Ji Siyuan had a rather lively, carefree personality. He was the same age as Xie Yunshu, but perhaps because his family had protected him too well, he spoke like a child who had never quite grown up. Hearing Xie Yunshu’s words, he didn’t get angry. Instead, he sneakily slipped her a note: “What’s for lunch at the canteen tomorrow?”
Xie Yunshu simply pretended she hadn’t seen it and continued listening to the lecture.
Having brought the boredom on himself, Ji Siyuan lowered his head again and began drawing in his notebook. Before long, the outline of a young woman appeared on the blank page: a small face, big eyes, long hair. Her expression resembled Xie Yunshu’s almost perfectly.
It wasn’t until school let out that he offered it up like a treasure. “Pretty good, huh?”
Xie Yunshu was genuinely surprised, but then her brows drew together. “You didn’t pay attention in class and just sat there drawing the whole time? Then why didn’t you apply to the art department instead of wasting your time here?”
Ji Siyuan shrugged, carrying his bag as he followed behind her. “Why do you talk exactly like my brother? You think I wanted to come here? My brother said that since I like drawing so much, I might as well learn to draw architectural plans. That way, I can inherit the family business in the future.”
Xie Yunshu was a little speechless. “Then why are you still drawing portraits?”
Ji Siyuan stuffed the drawing into her hands. “Keep it. If I become a famous artist someday, this might be worth a fortune.”
Xie Yunshu looked down and saw that he had even written his name at the bottom of the drawing. She instinctively turned her head to glance at him, only then realizing that Ji Siyuan and Ji Si’an didn’t really look alike. Though both had the refined features typical of southerners, Ji Siyuan’s eyes tilted upward at the corners. Compared to his older brother’s shrewd restraint, he seemed far more flamboyant and unrestrained.
In particular, beneath the corner of his eye were two vivid red beauty marks side by side. They gave Xie Yunshu a strange sense of déjà vu, but she was certain she had never met Ji Siyuan before. After all, he was a young master from Pengcheng, more than a thousand kilometers away from Haicheng!
“Then I’ll wait to sell it for money.” Xie Yunshu still wanted to go back and read for a while, so she casually slipped the drawing into her pocket and rode off on her bicycle.
Ji Siyuan rubbed the tip of his nose. She still hadn’t said whether his drawing was good or not.
When she returned to the communal apartment block, Xie Mingcheng had also just gotten out of school. Holding his textbook, he asked casually, “Sis, how’s night school?”
Xie Yunshu felt pretty good about it. “Not bad.”
Li Fenlan was more concerned about other things. “Yunshu, how are you getting along with your classmates? No one’s bullying you, are they? What’s your new deskmate like?”
Most of the students at night school were men, and they were all people from society. Although her daughter looked formidable, she was still a girl in her early twenties, so it was no wonder Li Fenlan worried a little more.
Xie Yunshu smiled. “Everyone’s there to study. Who would be so bored as to bully people? Besides, do I look that easy to bully?”
As she spoke, she placed the portrait Ji Siyuan had drawn of her on the table. “My deskmate is basically a kid. He’s easy to get along with. He even drew this for me today!”
Li Fenlan leaned in to look, and a smile appeared in her eyes as well. “It’s really well drawn. But why did he add two moles here by the corner of the eye?”
Xie Yunshu hadn’t looked closely at the drawing at all. Hearing that, she frowned and examined it. “He has moles himself, so he drew them on me too?”
Li Fenlan chuckled and looked at it again. “He probably remembered wrong. But these two moles are exactly the same as the ones on Xiaowei’s face. Even the position is identical…”
Xiaowei?
Xie Yunshu froze for a moment. Suddenly, she understood why Ji Siyuan had seemed familiar to her. It was because his eyes were exactly the same as Xiaowei’s: both tilted upward at the corners, with two red moles side by side beneath the right eye…
