Chapter 3
Maybe it was from overthinking, but my morning sickness was extremely severe.
In just half a month, I lost 5 kg.
Even the good-tempered Pei Huai couldn’t help but snap at the servants and the doctor out of anxiety.
Later, he somehow found out that an old matron by the Empress Dowager’s side had a remedy for morning sickness, so he disregarded all propriety and went to beg the Empress Dowager.
The Empress Dowager laughed and scolded him for being henpecked, but still lent him the matron.
He blushed, but nodded and admitted it, shamelessly taking the matron away.
The few imperial consorts present at the time were both amused and exasperated.
In less than half a quarter of an hour, the matter was all over the palace.
Even when my mother came to visit, she laughed and told me how lucky I was to have such a wonderful husband as Pei Huai who loved me so much.
“Niaoniao, Heqi Pavilion has just made a new batch of lotus hawthorn cakes. They’re refreshing and not greasy-you’ll definitely like them.”
He carefully placed the pastries in front of me, his eyes smiling.
But I only took one bite before putting them down.
I opened my mouth and said:
“My dear Pei, the apricot blossoms are blooming. Will you accompany me to Mount Xiang tomorrow to see them?”
His smile froze for a moment, then he quickly recovered and said with a casual smile, “It’ll rain tomorrow, and the mountain roads will be slippery. You’ve just gotten pregnant, so it’s better not to tire yourself out running around.”
“Niaoniao, if you want to see apricot blossoms, how about I take you to the Apricot Blossom Pavilion? You can even have a cup of your favorite apricot blossom wine.”
I stared at him, trying to find a trace of guilt in his expression.
But I couldn’t find anything.
He really did seem to be concerned about my health, and that’s why he said those words.
“Don’t be upset, Niaoniao. When the weather clears up, I’ll take you to Mount Xiang every day if you want.”
He pulled me into his arms, his warm breath brushing against my ear, carrying that familiar scent of sandalwood.
But I keenly caught a faint whiff of apricot blossom.
Pei Huai went to Mount Xiang today.
That’s where his mistress lives.
He keeps that woman pampered in Xiangshan Tower. When spring is in full bloom, apricot blossoms burst forth on the branches, filling the whole courtyard with their fragrance-so beautiful it takes your breath away.
Unlike me, a transmigrator with no fighting spirit, willing to be trapped in this four-walled sky, unable to move.
