Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Three days later, the South City Contact Point was compromised.
Old Qin was shot.
The Newspaper Office was sealed off.
Two couriers went missing.
By the time Shen Zhaoxue rushed to the scene, the entrance of the alley was littered with nothing but wet newspapers.
Word reached her shortly after.
The man leading the raid was Zhou Huaiyan.
She stood in the rain, her mind going blank.
She didn’t believe it.
But when she slipped into the Old Dock Warehouse, she saw Zhou Huaiyan stepping out of a car.
Behind him, the captured couriers were being held under guard.
He wore a black uniform.
His face was expressionless.
As a courier was dragged past him, the man looked up and cursed.
“Zhou Huaiyan, you’ll die a miserable death!”
Zhou Huaiyan only said, “Take him away.”
Shen Zhaoxue remained hidden in the shadows.
The gun in her hand rose slowly.
She aimed at his heart.
The very spot where she had just bandaged his wound.
She suddenly felt like laughing.
How could someone feel pain in the same place twice?
That night, Zhou Huaiyan received a note.
Ten o’clock. Old St. John’s Church.
He arrived on time.
The church had been abandoned for years.
Half of the stained-glass windows were shattered.
Moonlight leaked through, coating the floor like a layer of frost.
Shen Zhaoxue stood before the altar.
Her muzzle was aimed right at him.
Zhou Huaiyan closed the door.
“You shouldn’t have come alone.”
“Afraid I won’t be able to kill you?”
“Afraid that after you kill me, you won’t be able to get out.”
Her eyes were terribly red.
But her voice was steady.
“Was it you who led the raid on the South City Contact Point?”
“Yes.”
“What about Old Qin?”
“He’s not dead.”
“Where is he?”
“I can’t tell you.”
Shen Zhaoxue let out a short laugh.
“That sounds just like you.”
Zhou Huaiyan looked at her.
“Put the gun down.”
“You tell me to put it down, and I’m just supposed to do it?”
She approached him step by step.
“You didn’t explain three years ago. You aren’t explaining now. Do you think that just because you gave me a Marriage Contract, blocked a search once, and showed me a few wounds, I’m supposed to believe you?”
The muzzle pressed against his chest.
Zhou Huaiyan didn’t flinch.
“Shoot.”
Shen Zhaoxue’s hand trembled slightly.
He gripped the barrel and pressed it half an inch closer to his heart.
“If you must have an answer, then shoot.”
“You think I won’t dare?”
“I know you dare.”
Outside the church, crows took flight in alarm.
Shen Zhaoxue stared at him intently.
Suddenly, she noticed blood on his left sleeve.
It wasn’t his.
The color was too dark.
“Who did you save?”
Zhou Huaiyan’s expression shifted slightly.
“Old Qin?” she pressed. “Did you move him?”
He remained silent.
Footsteps echoed from outside the door.
More than one person.
Zhou Huaiyan grabbed her hand.
The muzzle was still pressed against his chest.
He whispered, “Curse me.”
Shen Zhaoxue froze.
He raised his voice. “Miss Shen, did you think a single gun would be enough to blackmail me?”
The door opened.
Adjutant Lu stood at the entrance.
“Officer Zhou, what a coincidence.”
Zhou Huaiyan moved with a sudden reversal, seizing the gun.
His movements were so violent it felt as if he were about to snap her wrist.
Shen Zhaoxue turned pale from the pain.
But in his eyes, she saw a single command.
Act.
She gritted her teeth and raised her hand to slap him.
“Zhou Huaiyan, you animal.”
Adjutant Lu approached.
“It seems Miss Shen has deep feelings for you, Officer.”
Zhou Huaiyan said coldly, “Are private matters now to be recorded in the official files?”
“The Section Chief asked me to remind you,” Adjutant Lu smiled. “The city hasn’t been peaceful lately. The people around you, Officer, should also be investigated.”
Shen Zhaoxue understood.
Adjutant Lu was investigating Zhou Huaiyan.
Zhou Huaiyan tossed the gun to him.
“Take her back.”
Shen Zhaoxue looked at him.
He didn’t look at her.
As she was dragged out of the church, she heard him whisper.
“Don’t look back.”
Those three words again.
Don’t look back.
Because someone is watching from behind.
The moment you look back, everyone dies.
