Chapter 66 - A Bunch of Babies
Tang Huaijin took a taxi home, initially planning to prepare dinner for his sister. However, as soon as he opened the door, he heard the sound of the exhaust fan in the kitchen.
He walked into the kitchen and saw his sister making sweet and sour ribs. Puzzled, he asked, “Sis, why are you back? Weren’t you supposed to go to the company to work on the proposal?”
Tang Yaoyao glanced at her brother, her expression slightly awkward as she smiled and said, “There’s no one at the company, and I didn’t really have any ideas today, so I came back to wait for Jin.”
While speaking, Tang Yaoyao poured water into the pot to simmer the ribs, then turned to her brother with a gentle smile, “So, did you pass the exam?”
“Uh… I think I did,” Tang Huaijin replied, his expression awkward. He felt something was off but couldn’t figure it out during the ride home, so he changed the topic, “Why no ideas? Need my help?”
“I wanted to do it myself,” Tang Yaoyao pouted, her voice playful, “But then I thought, my skills aren’t as good as yours, and it’s your book. You definitely understand it better than I do.”
“What should we do then?” Tang Huaijin asked with a playful grin, “Should I write my own book review?”
Tang Yaoyao shot him a reproachful look, displeased, “That’s not possible. It’s my job, but I’ve thought it through. I’ll write while Jin watches and helps me revise.”
“Is there any difference?” Tang Huaijin couldn’t help but laugh.
Tang Yaoyao felt a bit embarrassed too, her cheeks reddening as she said, “Of course there’s a difference. I’m writing the review for you, even if you revise it later, it’s still my work. What’s wrong, don’t want to?”
Tang Huaijin nodded, smiling broadly, “I do, I do. Whatever Sis wants me to do, I’ll do. I’m born to serve my sister.”
“Who wants you to serve me, annoying,” Tang Yaoyao felt his smile was a bit odd, giving him a playful glare.
“No, no, I insist on serving my sister,” Tang Huaijin shook his head, continuing with words that Tang Yaoyao couldn’t quite grasp.
“Hmph,” Tang Yaoyao snorted lightly, but a satisfied smile appeared on her face, clearly enjoying her brother’s affection. She gracefully walked over to Tang Huaijin, untied her apron, and carefully tied it around him, saying cheerfully, “Since Jin is so good to Sis, Jin will cook dinner tonight.”
After speaking, she sniffed him twice, puzzled, “What’s that smell on you?”
Tang Huaijin’s heart skipped a beat, having forgotten about his sister’s super-sensitive sense of smell. He quickly covered it up with a laugh, “The kitchen smell is so strong, what could you possibly smell?”
Why does this smell seem so familiar? Tang Yaoyao shook her head, deciding not to dwell on it. She gave Tang Huaijin a light peck on the cheek, saying with a smile, “Then Sis will watch TV on the sofa while you finish cooking.”
“Okay~” Tang Huaijin nodded with a smile, giving his sister’s slender waist a playful squeeze, earning a shy glare from Tang Yaoyao.
Actually, his sister had already prepared most of the dishes and steamed the rice. Tang Huaijin just needed to finish simmering the ribs and thicken the sauce before they could eat.
Since the relationship between the siblings had progressed, Tang Yaoyao increasingly enjoyed acting coy around him. Unlike before, when she was always the big sister hugging her brother, now when they were together, Tang Yaoyao seemed more like a little sister.
Though she occasionally displayed her sisterly demeanor by planting kisses on Tang Huaijin’s cheek, the moment Tang Huaijin made a move, she would instantly become a soft, shy little sister.
Tang Huaijin didn’t mind this; in fact, he was more satisfied with his sister’s change. When a woman wholeheartedly hangs her heart on a man, she instinctively wants to act coy, seeking his affection to satisfy her sense of security.
However… recalling his sister’s behavior in the elevator that afternoon, Tang Huaijin still felt a bit worried. He could tell that his sister was avoiding the topic, and she was very good at hiding things, preferring to bury them in her heart without saying a word.
Just like when Tang Huaijin had already told his sister about being with Lin Ruoxi, she merely nodded with a smile, showing no sign of anything unusual.
But on the day Tang Huaijin brought her home, Tang Yaoyao completely broke down. Such matters, when suppressed in the heart, slowly accumulate and will eventually erupt.
Yet Tang Huaijin still couldn’t figure out how to discuss such things with his sister. Whenever he brought them up, she would find an excuse to escape.
He shook his head in mild frustration, turned around, and lifted the pot lid to start reducing the sauce.
If he couldn’t figure it out, he’d stop thinking about it for now. Anyway, it seemed there wasn’t any major issue at the moment. Slowly but surely, Rome wasn’t built in a day. As long as his sister could gradually accept him and be with him, no matter how long it took, it would be enough.
After dinner, the siblings snuggled on the couch for a while. Tang Yaoyao glanced at the time and decided to start working. She dashed back to her room, grabbed her laptop, and placed it on the coffee table.
But the coffee table was too low, making typing on the sofa uncomfortable. Tang Yaoyao tried several positions but felt uneasy, so she simply pulled Tang Huaijin’s hand and ran back to the bedroom, letting Tang Huaijin lie on the big bed first, then kicked off her little slippers and climbed onto the bed herself.
Tang Yaoyao snuggled up to him, opened his arm, and nestled into his embrace, leaning her back against his chest. She bent her knees to place the small laptop on them, wriggled a bit to get comfortable, then contentedly squinted her eyes and said with a cheeky smile, “Indeed, Jin’s embrace is the most comfortable place in the world.”
You really trust your little brother…
Tang Huaijin looked at his sister wriggling in his arms with a helpless expression, rolled his eyes at her, and said irritably, “Hurry up and write, stop wriggling like a little worm.”
“You’re the worm,” Tang Yaoyao retorted, her cheeks turning slightly red. She stopped wriggling, turned to him, bared her teeth, showing a row of clean white teeth, and pretended to bite him.
Faced with his sister’s fierce threat, Tang Huaijin was not afraid at all. Instead, he leaned his face closer, gently placed his hand on his sister’s waist, and teased, “Yes, we’re a perfect match, let’s have a bunch of little babies.”
“Who’s having a bunch of babies with you…” Tang Yaoyao blushed again, her cheeks turning rosy as she turned away, obediently nestled in Tang Huaijin’s arms, not daring to move. She grabbed Tang Huaijin’s somewhat mischievous hand and softly said, “Sister needs to work now, Jin mustn’t tease sister.”
Seeing his sister’s serious expression, Tang Huaijin chuckled twice and withdrew his hand, quietly watching his sister start writing her draft.
The room gradually quieted down, with only Tang Huaijin’s occasional guidance breaking the silence.
Yaoyao was genuinely invested in writing the book review. Huaijin’s book was so well-written that she wanted to put her utmost effort into crafting a review worthy of it.
What? You say Huaijin was helping her cheat?
Can you really call it cheating between siblings? Tang Yaoyao had no qualms about enlisting her brother’s help.
Seeing his sister so dedicated, Tang Huaijin naturally wouldn’t be half-hearted.
They worked tirelessly until the early hours. After carefully reading through the book review one last time, Tang Huaijin nodded in satisfaction and stretched his stiff neck.
Noticing her brother’s nod, the already drowsy Tang Yaoyao tilted her head, leaned against Tang Huaijin, and closed her eyes.
Looking at his sister slumped against him, Tang Huaijin chuckled softly, “Why didn’t you say you were tired earlier?”
Tang Yaoyao heard him, opened her eyes slightly, then quickly shut them again, murmuring, “I wanted to write a better review for Jin…”
With that, she nestled her head against Huaijin’s chest and fell silent.
Seeing his sister exhausted and worn out, Tang Huaijin felt a wave of tenderness. He took the notebook from her lap and placed it on the bedside table. Noticing that Yaoyao was clinging to him, her small hands wrapped around his waist, he gently moved her hands aside.
Even though Tang Huaijin’s movements were gentle, Tang Yaoyao still sensed it, her eyelashes fluttering slightly.
Not wanting to wake her, Tang Huaijin could only shake his head helplessly. He pulled out the pillow behind him and placed it under Tang Yaoyao’s head, then lay down beside her.
He gazed at his sister’s serene and delicate sleeping face for a while. Unable to resist, he gently brushed his nose against hers, kissed her forehead lightly, and closed his eyes, holding her close.
Tang Yaoyao felt the tickle on her nose and frowned slightly in discomfort. But once Tang Huaijin embraced her, her expression relaxed, a faint smile appeared on her lips, and she slowly drifted off to sleep.
