My Rival: The Twenty-Year-Old Me - Chapter 20
The sound of car horns outside the window abruptly ceased.
Alexander Vance noticed.
Perhaps he truly loved me.
But I will never forgive.
The car horns suddenly resumed.
He shook his head gently, eyes filled with confusion, and grasped my hands.
“Eleanor Vance, from beginning to end, it’s you I love. We shouldn’t be apart.”
I finally laughed aloud, “Alexander Vance, you love the Eleanor Vance who is as vibrant and fierce as a thorny rose!”
“You love my primal vitality.”
I curled my lips and said, “But you consumed me, broke me, and left me to wither into dust.”
He shook his head and desperately explained, “No! I just, just fell in love with you.”
I chuckled, “Then why do you shy away from looking at my body with stretch marks?”
“Why do you refuse to listen to my complaints?”
“Why do you let me struggle in the triangle of childcare, family, and work?”
He hurriedly said, “Isn’t that how everyone gets by? Eleanor Vance, life is just too exhausting and complicated.”
Alexander Vance’s high nose turned red, his handsome features full of deep emotion, choking up, “I just lost my way, but at heart, it’s you I love.”
“Is that so?” I looked at him coldly, “Was it not you who hid assets when I lost my job and got cancer?”
“Was it not you who despised my post-pregnancy, post-cancer ravaged body?”
“Was it not you who repeatedly ignored my pain, my endurance, and constantly guarded against me?”
Every tremor of my vocal cords carried a scent of blood, “Alexander Vance, the Eleanor Vance you love is alive beside you, but you choose not to show up, choose to turn a blind eye.”
He gripped my arms tighter and tighter, a tear flowed from his eye, “No, it’s not.”
Thanks to the exercise over the past two years, I broke free from him.
I looked at him disdainfully, curling my lips coolly, “Alexander Vance, you must admit.”
“We’ve known each other for seventeen years, been in love for fifteen.”
“Married for ten.”
“This is the end.”
As I turned to leave, I advised, “Don’t meet again.”
“Otherwise, I’ll send the documents to your internal audit.”
Leaving Alexander Vance lost and forlorn in the sunlight.
