My Rival: The Twenty-Year-Old Me - Chapter 19
Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to J City with Ellie to watch the opera.
The next morning, she wore a beautiful white dress, but in the gentle morning light, she gradually became transparent.
She waved her hand, “I’m going back!”
Then she tilted her head and gave a quirky smile, “Yesterday, I slapped Alexander Vance and told him I was you. He looked as if he’d seen a ghost.”
“I said, you fool, you’ll love me forever in this life.”
“I even posted on Weibo @HR, saying Alexander Vance harassed me, a twenty-year-old college student, and I ran away because I couldn’t stand the harassment. It stirred quite a storm.”
I covered my mouth and laughed out loud.
Her fair skin was nearly transparent, and she raised her eyebrows triumphantly, “I sold all the things Alexander Vance gave me.”
“Although I might have been ripped off, it’s still a sum of money, all placed in the drawer of my room.”
At twenty, my eyes shone like stars, “Goodbye.”
Then, there was nothing in the morning light.
The apartment suddenly became empty and silent.
Sunlight spilled into every corner of the house.
Before I could recover from the loss, Alexander Vance came in like a dog.
The password hadn’t been changed.
He stared at me blankly.
“Where’s Ellie?”
“She’s gone.”
Alexander Vance said foolishly, “Ellie said she was the twenty-year-old you.”
He stepped forward woodenly, touching the mole at the corner of my eye, “Yes, you’ve always had this mole, but it’s faded.”
I pushed his hand away.
“I thought she was just saying nonsense because we argued.”
He muttered in panic, “But she loves reading ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude,’ loves watching operas, proud and willful, a bit fiery, but very capable.”
“She only likes gardenia perfume, likes to lightly tap my furrowed brow with her index finger, only dares to let me kiss her cheek…”
His words came faster and faster, his face growing paler.
–She and I have the same interests.
But after five years of marriage, I was forced to put them aside by the chaos of parenting and career pressure.
Later, for five years as a full-time homemaker, I no longer shared my joys with him.
“She didn’t lie to me.” He awoke from a dream, his eyes reddened, hoarsely saying, “Eleanor Vance, she is you.”
