Chapter 17
Benjamin invited me to a private kitchen.
During our casual chat, Alexander’s message arrived: [Sorry. I went too far today.]
Benjamin glanced at the phone I had set down and asked, “Is your ex-husband pestering you? Do you need my help?”
Lately, I’ve been reminiscing about some college days.
Whenever I encountered Benjamin during college, his gaze was always strangely bright.
So I often avoided him.
Later, he also applied for the 2+2 study abroad program, but I stayed for Alexander and we lost touch.
As adults, I roughly understand his intentions.
But now, when it comes to love, I only feel weary.
The feelings with Alexander once burned at a temperature of several million degrees.
And yet, it ended like this.
I’d rather travel, read, work, or hike.
Benjamin asked, “Sophia mentioned you’re looking into studying abroad.”
Indeed.
I’ve been on a five-year gap and need a reasonable opportunity to build a professional image before returning to the workforce.
At the same time, I really want to go abroad for a change of environment, just to live somewhere else for a while.
More importantly, the dividend money has arrived.
Benjamin handed me a document.
It’s a renowned one-year study program at an Ivy League institution.
This program requires immense resources and connections to have a chance at applying.
Benjamin clasped his fists under his chin, like a large dog seeking praise, “Eleanor, I’m willing to use all my resources to lift you up.”
“Consider it my divorce gift to you, alright?”
