Chapter 16
Benjamin glanced at Alexander and asked me, “Shall we head back to the company together? There’s a detail about the case that needs to be finalized.”
I nodded and was about to leave when my hand was suddenly grabbed.
After so many years, I saw his eyes flicker with fragmented light once more.
His hoarse voice mingled with the sound of the rain, “Eleanor, my arm hurts.”
This used to be my weakness.
No matter what Alexander did, as long as he said it, I would comply.
The rain poured down, enveloping everything in misty vapor.
I slowly pried his hand away, inch by inch.
With a look of astonishment on his face, I smiled lightly, “What does that have to do with me?”
My wrist ached as he pulled me back.
Alexander’s tone was so sincere and earnest.
Yet he said, “Eleanor, this man can’t accept your stretch marks and scars.”
“Smack!–” I slapped his face to the side.
His chiseled features turned red in an instant.
I sneered, “Alexander, don’t disgust me.”
“If you disgust me any further, I might have a chat with your internal audit about those gray incomes of yours.”
Over the years, I’ve been investigating his transferred assets, preserving evidence of non-compliance piece by piece.
It’s lonely at the top.
There are plenty of people who want his position, plenty who want to bring him down.
As I closed the car door, Alexander remained frozen, staring at me unwaveringly.
