My Ex-Boyfriend's Name Was in the Chairman's Will - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Jiang Youchuan set our meeting point at a twenty-four-hour diner in the old city district.
When he saw Luo Yuncheng and me sit down, he let out a low whistle.
“The two of you together? That’s even more scandalous than I imagined,” he said.
I didn’t feel like wasting words on him, so I pushed the business card and the copies of the work logs toward him. “My father contacted you back then?”
As soon as Jiang Youchuan saw the name “Song Zhiyuan,” his expression immediately sobered.
“He did,” he said. “But he died before I could actually meet him.”
“What do you have?”
Jiang Youchuan took a sip of iced lemon tea and lowered his voice. “After the North River Phase 3 collapse, I discovered there was an issue with the supplier of the load-bearing steel used on-site. The re-inspection reports had been swapped. Your father originally promised to give me the full account books, but on the day we were supposed to meet, he didn’t show up. The next day, I received an anonymous package containing a few photocopies and a cassette tape.”
“Where’s the tape?”
“It’s damaged,” Jiang Youchuan said. “But I kept the copies.”
He pulled a manila envelope from his bag and pushed it toward us.
Inside were several pages of invoice headers and a copy of an internal approval form. In the signature column of the approval form, Pan Yuming’s name was clearly visible.
My fingers tightened inch by inch.
Jiang Youchuan glanced at me. “Your father’s death wasn’t an accident. The day before he died, he sent me a text message telling me that if I couldn’t reach him, I should go find someone named Yuan Anhe.”
“Yuan Anhe?” Luo Yuncheng looked up.
“She was an assistant at Haisheng’s Finance Center who suddenly resigned. I looked into her; she moved three times, and her last record stops in Lanzhou.” Jiang Youchuan paused. “There’s one more thing I’ve never quite figured out.”
“What?”
“After your father died, of the two reporters who covered the story back then, one died in a car accident and the other was reassigned. I was almost fired myself.” Jiang Youchuan stared at me. “Haisheng wasn’t just suppressing the accident back then; they were cleaning house.”
Luo Yuncheng took photos of the copies to archive them. Jiang Youchuan looked at me. “If you keep investigating, Haisheng won’t just come after you. You and Lawyer Luo have been tied to the same string for a long time now.”
I didn’t respond to that, only asking, “Give me Yuan Anhe’s address.”

“We’re going to Lanzhou today,” I said.
“Alright.”
“Aren’t you going to ask me what happens to the company?”
“You know what’s important.”
I turned to look at him. “Since when did you become so reasonable?”
Luo Yuncheng said flatly, “I always have been.”
