Chapter 17: Ye Junyao Sends for Him!
The thought startled Qin Dong. Su Yuru leaned back in the chair, her color gradually improving.
“I’ve been to several major hospitals and tried folk remedies. Nothing helped.” She smiled bitterly. “Sometimes I wonder whether I really am cursed and caused the death of my husband—the man you called brother. Other men have pursued me, but whenever they came close, they ended up in a fatal car accident or broke a leg for no reason.”
Her eyes reddened. “Stay away from me from now on, Xiaodong. I don’t want to hurt you.”
“I’m not afraid. Don’t dwell on it.”
He wanted to tell her about the White Tiger Husband-Harming Fate, but stopped. She would surely ask whether it could be broken. There was a way: dual cultivation with someone possessing his Sacred Dragon Physique, using its energy to break the fate. But if he said so, she might think he was making excuses to take advantage of her.
Seeing her flushed cheeks and alluring gaze, Qin Dong swallowed despite himself. More than twenty minutes later, the feverish heat finally left her, and she returned to normal. It was getting late.
“I should go,” Qin Dong said, rising. “If you want to avoid another episode, stay away from peach blossoms—even stickers of them.”
Peach blossoms belonged to wood, which could feed the malignant energy and trigger the fate’s harmful effects. Su Yuru stared. “Why? Peach blossoms are my favorite.”
Unable to explain the fate, he said seriously, “Just remember. I wouldn’t hurt you.” Then he left the restaurant.
…
At dawn the next day, Qin Dong took the first bus back to the city. As soon as he got off, Ye Junyao called.
“Where are you?” Her voice was as cool as ever, so different from how she had sounded in bed.
“At the bus station. I was heading back to university. Why?”
“Go to Villa Nine at Yunding Tiangong Villas and wait for me.” She hung up before he could ask another question.
“They say even one day of marriage creates a lasting bond. It’s been two days, and she still treats me like this,” he muttered. He hailed a taxi to Villa Nine.
More than half an hour later, he arrived. As he prepared to pay, he spotted two familiar figures outside the villa: his ex-girlfriend Xu Lei and his wealthy roommate Zhao Kuo.
Xu Lei admired the luxurious house, clinging to Zhao Kuo’s arm. “It’s beautiful! Why don’t you buy one? We could live here.”
He shook her off. “Do you know what it costs? Over forty million yuan! You think I print money?”
She stared. “Over forty million? I wonder who could afford to live here.”
Qin Dong paid the driver and got out. Both of them stopped when they saw him.
“What are you doing at Yunding Tiangong?” Zhao Kuo demanded. “Is this somewhere you belong?”
Xu Lei sneered. “Are you here to pick up trash? Or trying to sneak in and steal?”
Qin Dong gave them a cold look. “None of your business.”
Zhao Kuo’s anger flared. He had convinced himself that Qin Dong only beat him last time because he had been careless. Now he swung a fist at Qin Dong’s face.
“I’ll cripple you today!”
Qin Dong caught his wrist and bent it. Zhao Kuo howled. Qin Dong kicked him, sending him two or three meters backward.
“Young Master Zhao!” Xu Lei screamed and ran to help him up.
The commotion brought three uniformed security guards. Their captain recognized Zhao Kuo and hurried over. “Young Master Zhao, what happened?”
Clutching his stomach, Zhao Kuo pointed at Qin Dong. “He was acting suspiciously. I thought he’d come to steal, so I tried to stop him. He attacked me.”
The guards turned hostile looks on Qin Dong. Seeing his ordinary clothes, the captain demanded, “What are you doing here? Tell the truth.”
“The owner of Villa Nine asked me to come.”
For a moment, everyone fell silent. Then they laughed. Zhao Kuo doubled over, still holding his stomach.
“Are you out of your mind? Do you know who owns this villa? A poor loser like you thinks you’re worthy of knowing them?”
Xu Lei chimed in, “He’s a salesman, remember? Maybe he does know the owner.”
Zhao Kuo spat. “A villa worth over forty million, and you think an intern like him could meet someone that important? He wouldn’t even get a sniff of the shit they leave behind.”
The captain became convinced Qin Dong was lying. “Enough pretending. Come to the security office for questioning.”
Qin Dong stayed where he was. “What if I don’t?”
The captain’s face darkened. “Then we won’t be polite.” The other two guards stepped forward, ready to fight.
Zhao Kuo and Xu Lei watched with glee. Yunding Tiangong paid handsomely to hire former special forces personnel as guards. However well Qin Dong could fight, three trained veterans would make him suffer.
“Teach him a lesson!” Zhao Kuo shouted.
As the guards prepared to move, a black Bentley approached and stopped directly in front of Villa Nine. The rear window lowered, and a cool, commanding voice came from inside.
“I asked him to come. Is there a problem?”
