Chapter 7
Actually, when that incident happened, I had a boyfriend.
After the incident, for a long time, I would fall into nightmares at night.
I just couldn’t understand why, even though it was someone else’s mistake.
Yet it was me, the victim, who tossed and turned sleeplessly at night.
On the fourth day of my hospitalization, my boyfriend at the time, Ji Yuan, finally came to see me.
Ji Yuan brought many things, some I loved to eat, and some collectibles I had admired for a long time.
He put the things down and peeled an apple for me at the bedside.
As he was leaving, he said, “Zhaozhao, let’s break up.”
I leaned against the headboard, looking at him, but said nothing.
Yet under my gaze, he gradually crumbled.
He lowered his head.
“I know you’re great, I know this isn’t your fault.”
“But Zhaozhao, do you know?”
He suddenly raised his eyes, his eyes filled with somewhat comical tears.
“I’m afraid that every time we have intimate contact in the future, I’ll remember that you once…”
“It’s my fault.”
Our roles were reversed.
It seemed as if he was the one being abandoned.
“It’s me who’s too weak, it’s me who’s not firm enough, it’s all my fault.”
“Zhaozhao, you’re wonderful, it’s my fault.”
“It’s me, who can’t get past this hurdle…”
I turned my head.
Looking at the fading twilight outside the window.
I just said lightly, “I understand.”
Shi Chuan’s words that no one would want to accept me were not a prophecy.
He knew.
He knew that the nature of most people in this world is the same.
