Chapter 2
What a pity.
From sensing the signs to uncovering the betrayal.
Life is always ruthless, refusing to offer any transition.
When I returned home early from a business trip, I wasn’t feeling well.
The door lock clicked open, shoes scattered at the entrance, and a pair of pink strappy high heels stood out conspicuously.
I paused for a moment, looked up, and saw clothes strewn across the living room, piece by piece, stretching from the living room to the master bedroom.
The door upstairs was ajar, and I could hear the playful voices of a woman and a man.
Intimate as lovers.
“Stop messing around, I’ll go make you some food.”
A young woman’s voice suddenly rang out.
The bedroom door opened, and the girl upstairs abruptly locked eyes with me.
Her almond-shaped eyes flickered, her face turned pale, like a startled little rabbit.
She stammered, “…Miss Ming.”
Shi Chuan’s company’s new intern, Wen He.
I’ve seen her before, back when she had just joined the company and made a mistake at work.
During a department dinner, Shi Chuan publicly scolded her harshly.
I found her in the restroom with red eyes, offered a few words of comfort, and she hugged me and cried.
Later, she added me on WeChat, occasionally asking me about work-related matters.
And I responded to each one.
But now.
I looked at the ambiguous red marks stretching from her neck to her chest.
Suddenly, I felt like the biggest fool.
“You should go back,” the person behind her suddenly spoke.
Wen He lowered her head, quickly picked up her clothes, threw on a coat, and brushed past me.
I looked up at Shi Chuan.
He was wearing a bathrobe, neatly tied at the waist, concealing all traces on his body.
The fatigue from the long flight made my already muddled head ache even more.
The anger trapped in my chest was forcibly suppressed.
I asked, “Why?”
Shi Chuan looked at me, smiled, his expression as gentle as ever.
“She’s very clean, Zhaozhao.”
“I’m her first man.”
“You are different…”
She’s very clean.
So.
I am dirty.
I pressed my lips together.
Suddenly, I didn’t want to listen anymore.
