I didn’t know how to confess to Huo Yanchuan.

Nor did I find an opportunity to do so.

That day, Huo Yanchuan sent someone to deliver a custom-made gown to my home.

I was staring blankly at the dress when Huo Yanchuan called.

“Did you receive the dress?”

“Try it on and see if it fits.”

“Tonight, come with me to the banquet.”

He knew I couldn’t speak, yet he still called to tell me about this.

I couldn’t refuse even if I wanted to.

I’ve been married to him for a year, and he’s never taken me to any social events.

Besides, I’d feel completely out of place at such occasions, and I didn’t want to go myself.

I was about to text him saying I didn’t want to go.

Before I could finish editing the message, he sent one over: [Grandpa specifically asked me to bring you to the banquet. Get ready.]

Since he brought up Grandpa, I decided to go with him.

I replied: [Okay.]

At 8 p.m.

The driver came to pick me up.

I’m used to dressing plainly, so wearing a custom gown felt awkward.

The moment the car door opened, I seemed to catch a flash of amazement in Huo Yanchuan’s eyes.

After getting in the car, he noticed my unease.

He said casually, “You look beautiful like this. Be confident.”

Although I couldn’t tell how sincere his compliment was, at least I didn’t feel so inferior anymore.

This was my first time attending a high-society gathering.

I followed behind Huo Yanchuan, and as soon as we entered the banquet hall, all eyes turned to us.

My hearing is very sharp; I could faintly hear people whispering.

“Oh, so this is the mute wife the Huo Family heir married?”

“She’s quite pretty, but her manners and bearing are lacking.”

“You can tell she’s a country bumpkin who’s never seen the world.”

“Huo Yanchuan actually brought her to the banquet. Isn’t he embarrassed?”

My palms were sweating, and I felt like hiding.

But Huo Yanchuan suddenly tightened his grip on my hand and whispered, “Don’t be afraid. If anyone dares to mock you, I’ll buy out their company.”

He made me laugh, and my demeanor became much more poised.

He handed me a glass of apple juice.

The scent of apple juice made me suddenly gag.

I covered my mouth with my hand, barely suppressing the urge to vomit.
