Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“Chen Yu!”
He practically spat my name through gritted teeth. I simply returned the gesture with a smile.
“So, you do know my name.”
Taking advantage of his momentary daze, I deftly pulled a vial of medicine from my bundle and motioned for him to lie face down on the bed.
“The Chen Clan’s salve is a rare find. It’s far better than whatever junk you’ve been buying elsewhere. Not only does it dull the pain, but it won’t leave any scars…”
My voice trailed off as I reached the end of my sentence.
Crisscrossing whip marks were etched into his thin back. Beneath those fresh welts lay a tapestry of old scars in varying shades of healing.
One particular scar ran from his waist all the way across to his lower abdomen, disappearing beneath the silk quilt…
Cui Shao turned slightly, watching me with an unreadable expression. In the end, I was the one who couldn’t hold his gaze. I pulled the covers over him.
“It only takes seven days to heal completely…
“Now, move over. I’m going to sleep.”
Cui Shao didn’t budge. I sighed in exasperation. “I have no intention of sleeping on the floor again.”
Fine, whatever. If he wouldn’t move, he wouldn’t move. I kicked off my shoes, climbed over Cui Shao, and settled into the inner side of the bed.
Regardless, sleeping anywhere was better than the floor of the woodshed.
