A month later, Lin Zhixia posted another casual video.

She picked a few mint leaves from her balcony, muddled them with lemon slices, and made a simple cold drink.

When they were together, she used to make that drink all the time.

Cheng Yedu had never thought it was anything special.

But today, he found himself at the supermarket buying mint and lemons.

When Ji Tangli came home from work, she found him with a nearly empty glass of mint and lemon water.

She stared at the glass.

“Do you want some? I can make you a cup,” Cheng Yedu offered.

But Ji Tangli suddenly snapped, swiping the glass off the table and sending it crashing to the floor.

“You son of a bitch, a leopard can’t change its spots! Do you get off on having your cake and eating it too? She’s all the way in America, and you’re still here acting like a pathetic dog!”

Her words were so vulgar. Cheng Yedu fought to control his temper.

“This has nothing to do with Lin Zhixia. I just wanted to drink something with flavor.”

Ji Tangli burst into tears.

“And I suppose buying croissants had nothing to do with her either? Or you secretly looking up the MIT website? I’ve seen your phone, you even sent her a message! What, now that you have me, you want to sleep with your ex-girlfriend again? You men are all disgusting!”

Her shouting gave him a headache.

He realized, with a sense of delayed shock, that Ji Tangli was not the same person he remembered.

The person in front of him was coarse, had no hobbies or ambition, and spent all her time being suspicious and clinging to him.

She was nothing like Lin Zhixia, who seemed to glow when she talked about her work.

Even though he resented being used by her, he had to admit that Lin Zhixia was doing something meaningful. She was living an exciting life.

He silently blamed Ji Tangli. If she was going to become so vulgar and bitter, why did she have to come back?

She had tarnished the purest, most beautiful memory of his first love.

He was even starting to question his own judgment as a teenager.
