Chapter 8
Zhou Ru invited me to go shopping, but she had an emergency at the last minute and stood me up. So, I decided to go by myself.
I bought a few pairs of shoes, replaced my phone, and then wandered into a high-end boutique. This brand was known for having only one piece of each design in each store.
Two girls followed me into the store. One of them said coquettishly, “Ming Rao, I heard there’s a new collection here. Come shop with me.”
“Sure.”
The world is vast, yet small.
I turned my head and met Ming Rao’s surprised gaze. I nodded slightly. “What a coincidence.”
Before Ming Rao could say anything, the girl next to her rudely looked me up and down. “Who’s this? She looks a bit familiar. Oh, Vase Song.”
“Ming Qin, that’s impolite.”
Ming Qin pouted. “I was just joking. She probably wouldn’t mind, right?”
I smiled faintly and let it pass.
But she pushed further. “Right, with skin as thick as yours, you probably wouldn’t mind. After all, if you were a bit more sensitive, you wouldn’t be that kind of woman.”
I have a good temper, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a temper. I fixed my gaze on her and said calmly, “Miss, Shen Yuxiu and I have been together for seven years. Ming Rao has known him for less than a year, right? So, what kind of woman am I?”
Ming Rao’s expression shifted slightly.
Ming Qin, furious, retorted, “What makes you think you’re worthy of being compared to my cousin? Yuxiu is just playing around with you. He’s truly in love with her!”
I shrugged. “Well, congratulations, then.”
Ignoring them, I picked up a red dress. It looked quite nice.
Ming Qin snatched the dress from my hands. “Sales, wrap this one up for me.”
I frowned. “I saw it first.”
She replied self-righteously, “Did you pay for it? Just because you saw it doesn’t mean it’s yours. Who knows if you can even afford it?”
Fine.
I moved on to another item, and she pulled the same trick. “I want that one too.”
She was doing it on purpose.
After that, every time I so much as touched an item, she immediately told the sales to wrap it up.
In the end, I walked out of the store empty-handed. Ming Qin called out behind me, “Oh dear, it seems Yuxiu doesn’t care much about you. Otherwise, how could you not afford even a single thing?”
I walked into a dessert shop.
Half an hour later, the sales from that high-end boutique sat across from me.
“Zhiwei, long time no see. Thank you for helping me close so many sales today. This one’s on me!”
I rested my chin on my hand. “We’ve been classmates for so many years. It’s the least I could do.”
Chen Yunhe, my old high school classmate.
I only realized she worked there as a sales when I entered the store. Before we could catch up, Ming Rao and her group had come in.
Two years ago, Chen Yunhe’s husband passed away in an accident, leaving her a single mother raising two kids on her own. I wanted to help her out in any way I could.
So, I played along and helped her close over a dozen sales.
Feigning anger, Chen Yunhe said, “Classmates are classmates, but I earned quite a bit of commission today. If the big star doesn’t let me treat her, I’ll be upset.”
Just as I was about to respond, a sharp voice cut in. “Song Zhiwei, you did that on purpose!”
I sighed inwardly, marveling at how small the world really was.
Ming Qin stood not far away, her arm linked with Ming Rao’s. The look in her eyes could have burned a hole through me.
