Chapter 10
When I got home, my agent called me: “Zhiwei, did you offend President Shen?”
My voice was hoarse: “Why?”
“The new drama replaced you.”
“With whom?”
“Ming Qin. I heard she’s Ming Rao’s cousin. She hasn’t been in the entertainment industry for long, yet she’s already landed such an important role.”
I replied calmly, “Got it.”
The news of my replacement quickly spread through the marketing accounts, and the anti-fans flooded the comment section with mockery:
[This is what happens when you rely on your looks to curry favor.]
[Ming Qin is Ming Rao’s cousin. What does Vase Song have to compete with?]
[Rich people are always pragmatic. No matter how they play around outside, the future wife will always be the priority. Vase Song’s good days are over.]
[I don’t understand why there’s so much malice toward Song Zhiwei. Her acting isn’t stellar, but it’s definitely not bad. Even when she was backed by Shen Yuxiu, she never snatched anyone’s lead roles-she’s always played supporting characters.]
[Exactly. Song Zhiwei doesn’t even pick roles. She’s willing to take on any unlikable character.]
[Is it just because she debuted in a certain dual-male-lead drama as a vicious female supporting character? Does that justify five years of hate?]
[Playing so many villainous roles just proves she’s that kind of person. Vase Song’s fans should stop trying to defend her.]
[She doesn’t even look like a good person. Song Zhiwei’s face screams mistress vibes. Just saying.]
[Poor people empathizing again-like maids feeling sorry for their noble masters.]
I closed Weibo, refusing to read any more baseless criticism.
I contacted Shen Yuxiu’s secretary and told her I’d wait for him in the company parking lot.
Shen Yuxiu usually left the office at seven. It was now almost ten, and he still hadn’t come down.
I knew exactly what he was doing-he was giving me a hard time.
At ten o’clock, the familiar black Maybach’s headlights lit up.
I walked over, opened the car door, and got in.
Shen Yuxiu was still working on his iPad, treating me like I didn’t exist.
Ten minutes later, he closed the iPad.
I broke the silence first: “President Shen.”
“President Shen?” He curled his lips, but the temperature inside the car seemed to drop several degrees instantly. “Isn’t Miss Song supposed to be very principled? What brings you here?”
Ignoring his sarcasm, I took out a seashell necklace. Its craftsmanship was ordinary, with no apparent special qualities.
This was something Shen Yuxiu had given me five years ago, saying that no matter when, I could use it to exchange for a wish.
I was a bit greedy: “Can I ask for two wishes?”
Shen Yuxiu’s gaze fell on the necklace, then shifted to my face.
I don’t know if it was just my imagination, but I thought I saw a hint of anticipation in his eyes.
He let out a mocking laugh: “You’re quite greedy. What, do you want another Rolls-Royce?”
“No.” I shook my head. “My first wish is for you to let my friend return to her job. She’s a single mother and really needs this position.”
Shen Yuxiu’s eyes darkened slightly. “And the second?”
I paused for a moment before speaking seriously: “My second wish, Shen Yuxiu, is for us to be done. From now on, you walk your sunny path, and I’ll cross my narrow bridge. Let’s not meet again.”
The iPad in Shen Yuxiu’s hand made a crisp sound as it snapped in half.
