I Turned the Villainess System Over to the Government - Chapter 1
“You’re the one who called? Who exactly is this person you say is inciting you?”
I pointed at my own head.
“I’ve been latched onto by something calling itself the Villainess System. It wants me to humiliate an innocent, poor female college student and forcibly possess a handsome young man in the prime of his life.”
The officer: “…”
“Get a drug test ready.”
The test came back negative, proving I wasn’t on anything. The officers decided to hear me talk nonsense one more time.
“Uh… do you have any evidence that this… system exists?”
I took out my phone and called Xiao Heng, the system-designated female lead.
She answered.
Me: “Bitch.”
Xiao Heng: “…Did I do something to you?”
Rustle—
Several banknotes suddenly popped into existence in front of my chest and fluttered to the floor.
“Officer, as long as I bully this girl named Xiao Heng, the system gives me rewards. Money, for example.”
The officer rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
They handed me over to a female officer for a meticulous search, had me change into a fresh set of facility-issued clothes right in front of her, then brought me back out.
Officer: “Can you do that again?”
Me: “Again?”
Officer: “Yes. That thing. Hurry.”
I called Xiao Heng again.
“Bitch.”
Xiao Heng: “??”
Two more banknotes materialized right in front of me.
The officers: “!!!”
They ran the bills through a counterfeit detector. They were real. Even the serial numbers were unique.
The officers immediately reported it to their superior.
When the superior arrived, the first thing he did was make everyone in the station take drug tests. Then he watched my performance.
Me: “Bitch.”
Banknotes drifted down.
The superior stared, dumbfounded, then reported it to his superior.
When that superior arrived, he made the first superior take a drug test.
…
With my left hand, I slapped Xiao Heng across the face. With my right, I splashed coffee all over her pristine white dress.
I bullied Xiao Heng mercilessly, and yet she had the nerve to be utterly spineless about it.
In the face of my thunderous tactics, she cowered and asked meekly,
“Wei Yang, can we split the money from the slaps fifty-fifty?”
A thin layer of banknotes already covered the floor around us.
Outside the transparent bulletproof glass, experts from every field stood with their mouths hanging open.
“No abnormal fluctuations detected. We cannot identify the mechanism by which the banknotes are appearing out of thin air.”
“Wei Yang’s cerebral cortical brain waves differ from those of ordinary people, but we’re unable to decode them.”
Xiao Heng and I were seated in a classified conference room. She was on one side. I sat with the officers on the other.
She pointed at me as I stared blankly at the ceiling.
“Why does Wei Yang get to sit over there?”
I raised one finger and wagged it.
“I came over voluntarily. You got recruited after the fact. We’re not the same.”
Officer Li, who sat at the head of the table, handed Xiao Heng a contract.
“Ms. Xiao Heng, are you willing to become a core participant in the ‘Villainess Project’ and assist us in using this higher-dimensional system to secure greater benefits for the people?”
“We guarantee your personal safety will not be harmed.”
Xiao Heng opened her mouth several times, hesitating.
Officer Li said, “Your father’s outstanding debts, your mother’s surgery expenses, and your tuition and fees will all be covered by the organization.”
Xiao Heng snapped into a salute.
“I guarantee I’ll complete the mission!”
The male lead, Shen Yi, was handsome, rich, and had lived a smooth, easy life. There was no way to tempt him with money.
The organization brought Shen Yi in for an initial round of persuasion.
“Shen Yi, we’re dealing with a case involving the attempted manipulation and coercion of citizens, as well as violations of personal freedom and human dignity. Serious criminal offenses may be involved. We need your help. Are you willing to participate in our upcoming operation?”
Shen Yi scratched his head.
“Why do you need me? I’m just an ordinary college student…”
Officer Li said, “Here’s the situation. Something calling itself a ‘Villainess System’ has appeared. You are the male lead it designated. We hope you’ll cooperate in completing some of its missions.”
Shen Yi looked troubled.
“Couldn’t you negotiate with it and get it to pick a different male lead? Female-oriented web novels aren’t really my area…”
Then I noticed Shen Yi’s phone case. Printed across it in huge characters were the words:
NEW-ERA PROFESSIONAL SLACKER.
Great. A life without setbacks had raised a male lead whose entire philosophy was giving up before he started. Officer Li was definitely getting rejected.
Under everyone’s expectant gaze, Shen Yi shifted uncomfortably.
He fiddled with the waist bag at his side to hide his awkwardness.
Huh?
What was that round, garishly colorful thing pinned to his bag?
I suddenly remembered what my high-school-aged cousin had once told me.
“Cousin, remember this. If someone carries a mysterious little plastic disc around with them, that person is absolutely, one hundred percent a weeb!”
Could it be…?
