I Slaughtered My Way Through a Horror Scenario with an Ovum - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
When I opened my eyes again, I was a senior palace maid at Cining Palace.
The system did not speak again.
It gave us no rules.
This was different from the other scenarios.
I tried calling out to the scenario to ask about the rules and victory conditions, but the system remained as silent as the dead.
Apparently, we would have to guess the rules and victory conditions ourselves, then test them.
How would the players test them? Simple: with other players’ lives.
Sure enough, on our second day in the scenario, the system’s announcement sounded in my ear.
[Player 072 has died. Game failed.]
My hand paused slightly as I poured tea, then carried on as though nothing had happened.
Someone had died already.
But the system had announced no rule violation.
That meant killing players was allowed.
Several days passed.
Players kept dying.
I made discreet inquiries. All the victims had been in the palace, and they had died in all kinds of bizarre ways.
Someone was trying different methods of killing to discover what counted as a violation.
Yet after so many deaths, there had still been none.
By now, that person should have realized murder wasn’t against the rules, no matter how it was done.
A normal person would have stopped at that point.
But the killer was still going.
Which meant… they might believe killing every other player was the victory condition.
That was a problem.
Some previous scenarios had indeed required players to kill all their competitors, but that didn’t mean this one did.
What if the condition for this scenario was that you mustn’t kill all the other players?
Conditions like that weren’t unheard of, either.
Thinking about it gave me a headache.
No wonder clearing this scenario came with a fifty-billion reward.
It was far from ordinary in difficulty.
Whatever the case, I had to find a way to stop the person who kept killing.
With the situation still unclear, their slaughter would only stir up the players’ fear and make the whole situation fall apart even faster.
I summoned my skill panel and activated Ovum’s first skill: “Release Attractant!”
In my vision, countless threads of fragrance drifted outward, quickly spreading through the entire palace complex.
Night.
A tall figure climbed through the window into my room.
“Heh. So this is where you are. Ovum, right? Let me have some fun before I kill you. See what makes an egg different from other women.”
I sat up in bed and shrank backward, clutching the covers. “Y-you! How did you know I was here?!”
“Couldn’t sleep tonight. Just happened to pass by. Didn’t expect this little stroke of luck.”
The man climbed onto the bed and pinned me down. “A female-exclusive skill, hahaha! A woman’s job is to serve men, isn’t it? You must be good at it. Come on, let me have a taste.”
I looked at the man before me, unmoved.
Summoning the skill panel, I activated Ovum’s third skill: Zona Reaction.
Crack!
The man went rigid in an instant.
He hung there, his body splintering inch by inch.
It was as if the air around him had suddenly become a wall. Embedded in it, he was being crushed with no possibility of escape.
I sat up and smiled, watching the light in his eyes slowly die.
He forced one last sound from his throat. “How can… a skill be… this… absurd…?”
He died.
His death was so strange, so effortless, as though I had casually squashed a bug.
And that was far from everything Ovum could do.
In fact, the instant this man entered my field of vision, all his information had been laid bare before me.
His height and weight, his interests, his starting skill–whatever he had, I could see it.
That was Ovum’s passive skill: Sperm Recognition.
As long as a man had sperm, I could see everything about him.
Just as an ovum could recognize and select sperm.
There was something else this man hadn’t known, and wouldn’t have dared believe.
His coming here tonight had been no coincidence.
The attractant I released had drawn him here.
Laughably, he thought he “happened” to be unable to sleep, “happened” to pass by, climbed through a window “on a whim,” and “just happened” to find me.
He was the person who had chosen [Strength] the moment he saw it.
Apparently, he really didn’t have much of a brain.
Looking at the word [Ovum] on the skill panel, I let out a soft breath.
My guess had been exactly right.
Ovum really was an absurdly powerful skill.
