I Divorced Him Quietly, Then He Went Crazy - Chapter 8
The day I returned to North City, not long after getting home, I received another notification.
I had to meet a client.
I arrived at the agreed location as scheduled, and by the time we finalized the details, it was almost dark.
As I walked out of the private room, I saw someone unexpected.
It was Evelyn Tan.
She was holding her phone, her face full of smiles, talking.
“Yes, I’m back in the country.”
Don’t worry, this time I’ll seize the opportunity.
Isn’t it a coincidence, I just got divorced, and Jeremy here followed suit right after.
He must still have feelings for me, right?”
Listening from the side, I nodded involuntarily.
Yes, he does.
Childhood affection isn’t so easily cast aside.
I walked past Evelyn Tan.
As I brushed past her, she hung up the phone and glanced at me.
“You look familiar, have we met before?”
I said, “No.”
She politely nodded, not asking further.
However, the next moment, my path was blocked.
I looked up and saw the man’s sharp jawline.
Jeremy looked down at me, his throat working, and after a moment, as if indifferent, he said, “Why are you here?”
His question was out of the blue.
But I understood.
He probably thought I knew he was here and came to find him.
I was silent for a moment, then explained, “I had a client here; we came to discuss some business.”
Jeremy’s expression stiffened slightly.
After a moment, he cleared his throat unnaturally, “Alright.”
“Going back? I’ll give you a ride.”
I looked back.
Evelyn Tan stood not far from me, staring intently at us.
I raised my phone.
“No need. You have friends.”
“I called a car; it’ll be here soon.”
With that, I pushed past him and walked out.
But he suddenly grabbed my wrist, his lips pressed into a tight line: “Wait.”
“I have something to ask you.”
I looked up: “What?”
He gazed at me unblinkingly, but his grip loosened slightly, as if afraid to hurt me: “What you said that day, it wasn’t true, was it?”
I paused for a moment.
Then realized he was probably asking about my comment, “I’m tired of it.”
“What difference does it make if it was true or not?”
We’re already divorced.”
With that, I pulled my hand free and walked out.
Later I learned that on this day, his group of friends was hosting a welcome back party for Evelyn Tan.
However, after seeing me,
Jeremy’s interest had inexplicably waned.
He sat for a while, then left on the pretext of another engagement.
