I Divorced Him Quietly, Then He Went Crazy - Chapter 12
That night, I returned home, and not long after sitting down, a familiar phone number appeared on my screen.
I almost thought I was hallucinating.
We hadn’t been in touch for a long time.
Our meeting today was also just a coincidence.
Now, he was calling me; could something be wrong?
Thinking this, I answered.
The moment the call connected, I heard the man’s voice on the other end, low, hoarse, and tinged with drunkenness.
He spoke almost bluntly, with only one words: “Congratulations.”
I was silent for a moment.
It seemed Brandon had already told him what happened that day.
He also thought I was getting engaged.
Holding the phone, I didn’t know how to reply.
And I was too lazy to explain that it was just a misunderstanding.
I simply hummed.
As my voice faded, I heard him chuckle.
It was emotionless, yet carried an inexplicable hint of mockery.
A moment later, he hung up the phone proactively.
Taking the phone away from my ear, I saw the call duration displayed.
Fifty-four seconds.
Two sentences.
Nothing else.
Putting down my phone, I went to take a shower.
When I came out, I heard my phone ringing incessantly.
I walked over, picked up the phone, and saw the call log.
In that short half-hour, Jeremy had called me eleven times.
I suddenly felt like laughing.
He was always so composed, as if nothing in the world could stir a ripple in his heart.
Now, he was so persistently calling me more than ten times.
Just as I thought this, the phone rang again.
I watched it for two seconds, then answered.
If I didn’t answer, with his demeanor, I had no doubt he would appear downstairs at my house the next moment.
“What is it?” I asked.
The other end was silent for a while.
I felt a little confused, and a hint of unnamed anger rose, unable to help but ask, “You’ve called so many times tonight, what exactly do you want?”
The man finally spoke.
His voice was devoid of warmth, and he spoke very slowly, asking me, “Why didn’t you answer the phone just now? Was someone with you?”
“With your fiancé?”
Three questions in a row.
I was stunned for a moment.
So, he thought I was doing something because I hadn’t answered the phone.
I pursed my lips, a little impatient: “What does that have to do with you?”
As my words fell, I heard the sound of a lighter clicking on.
Jeremy chuckled, his tone somewhat serious, but his voice was muffled.
“Is he richer than me, is he better to you than me? You just want to marry him.”
