I Can’t Forget You
“I Can’t Forget You”
On my wedding day, my ex-boyfriend-who had been dead for five years-sent someone to deliver an old USB drive to me.
The makeup artist was touching up my lipstick while my bridesmaid held up a phone to take photos of me. The hotel suite was a scene of lively celebration. When the doorbell rang, I thought it was the wedding planner bringing over the itinerary, so I casually told someone to bring it in.
The USB drive was very old. Its silver casing had worn down to a dull white, and a yellowed sticky note was attached to it.
There was only one line of text.
“Zhiwei, don’t marry He Lin.”
I recognized the handwriting.
It belonged to Zhou Jibai.
My hand trembled, causing the lipstick to smear past the corner of my mouth. The makeup artist let out a small gasp and hurried to wipe it away with a cotton swab. But I couldn’t hear a thing; my ears were ringing, as if someone had suddenly kicked open a door that had been sealed for years.
Zhou Jibai had been dead for five years.
I hadn’t dared to touch his name for a very long time.
But I couldn’t forget him.
Even when I hated him the most, I never forgot him.
