Chapter 7
Azi and I were both children adopted by the old rogue.
I never failed before, relying on skill, but Azi relied on her reckless ruthlessness.
Among a group of children, she was the fiercest. When she couldn’t steal money, she’d steal from other kids, always targeting the weak. If she couldn’t win, she’d resort to dirty tricks.
The scar on my hand was from when we fought; she burned me with a hot iron.
Her appearance meant Shen Yunian suspected me.
The Shen Family had strict traditions, even the cleaning maids had to be investigated for three generations. They required a clean family background and upright conduct. I had spent a fortune to have the Go-between fabricate a false identity for me to get in.
Lord Shen was honest and generous, the Mistress was gentle and wise, and Miss was foolish and harmless. The entire household was managed by Shen Yunian.
He hated being deceived the most.
If he found out I was a complete fraud, my glory and wealth would vanish.
Azi laughed charmingly, grabbed my tea, and drank it: “Good tea!”
“I heard you’ve become Miss now?” She crossed her legs and casually opened my jewelry box.
“You really are something. You burned down our old den and came to Jing City to make a fortune without bringing us siblings along. That’s not fair.”
She smiled sinisterly: “What if the Eldest Young Master knew you were born to a prostitute, had been a pickpocket, and killed someone…”
Few people knew my past, and Azi was one of them.
She really knew how to manipulate me.
As she spoke, she stuffed gold hairpins and jade bracelets into her sleeves.
I smiled innocently, letting her take the jade bracelet from my wrist: “What are you saying, Sister Azi? We sisters have depended on each other since childhood, of course, we share blessings.”
“No one here is closer than us.”
She smiled triumphantly, thinking I was very tactful.
She ate my pastries, taking a bite and spitting it out, her eyes and brows filled with arrogance and pride.
When she left, she took the hairpin from my bun.
I watched her back, grinding my teeth in hatred.
My life is truly bitter, I almost gambled everything, and before my wealth could warm up…
Someone came looking for trouble.
