Chapter 4
As we emerged from the prison, Shen Yushu clung to my sleeve, fearfully calling out, “…Sister, hungry…”
In a good mood, I pinched her chubby little cheek and said, “Come on, I’ll buy you some meat.”
She clapped her hands and laughed foolishly, calling me a great person.
She was my benefactor, and I had to keep her well-fed.
The corruption case had far-reaching implications, and the city was on high alert, with officials everywhere arresting people. After eating, I took Shen Yushu out of the city.
Spending the money I had secretly taken from the mansion, I patiently waited for an opportunity.
While hiding and keeping an eye on the Shen Family’s movements.
One day, we stopped to rest at a teahouse, and from a distance, I saw a group of people in black walking towards us, their expressions solemn, not like ordinary people.
Not daring to take risks, I hid Shen Yushu in an empty water jar behind the teahouse: “Little sister, let’s play hide and seek, don’t make a sound, okay?”
She nodded obediently.
After hiding her well, I returned to the front, where those people had already taken my original seat.
Expressionless, I picked up a bowl of water and moved to the side, but was called out by someone: “Miss, wait.”
The person who called me had a small mole under his eye, his gaze sharp:
“Miss, have you seen a girl about your age, accompanied by a six or seven-year-old child?”
I blinked, lying effortlessly, “Sir, are you talking about the one with two little braids, wearing a blue dress?”
I casually pointed westward, “She just went that way.”
Without lingering, they grabbed their swords and mounted their horses.
Once they were far away, I pulled Yushu out and sprinted in the opposite direction: “Yushu, let’s go!”
But we hadn’t run far when we heard the sound of hooves returning.
Suddenly, a fierce kick landed on my back, and I rolled several times with Yushu before stopping.
It hurt like hell!
“Dare to deceive me!”
A steel blade sliced through the air, and I widened my eyes, feeling a cold sweat instantly break out on my back.
“Stop.”
A cold voice abruptly rang out, and the blade halted inches from my nose.
Shen Yushu sprang out from behind me, laughing as she rushed towards the speaker:
“Big brother!”
