The jade-green waters shimmered, the willows deep in spring, a perfect time indeed.

The Mistress smiled and asked Shen Yunian if it was time to choose a good day for the wedding. Shen Yunian, with a half-smile, said there was no rush.

“Big Brother!” Yushu, holding a paper-wrapped package, ran towards him. “Second Sister bought me jujube cake, you have some!”

I walked over slowly and placed the little girl with sticky hands on my knee.

Shen Yunian looked up.

The scroll briefly revealed words like “old rogue” and “Wutong Academy.”

He had uncovered my old secrets; my family background was fake, my identity was fake, my words were full of lies. I was nothing but a complete fraud.

But so what?

I only wanted wealth and glory. The Shen Family could give it to me, and I could protect the Shen Family. Besides, the Shen Family was full of naive people, only Shen Yunian bore the burden, and he needed someone like me to assist him.

Suddenly, the scroll was tossed into the fire pit. The flames leapt up, burning brightly, casting flickering shadows on his profile.

“The eighth of next month is a good day.”

I smiled.

We are, after all, the same kind of people.
