Chapter 17
The past is unbearable to recall, but I have always been in the abyss.
“Can’t remember? Let me help you. It was a Thursday, the sky was so blue. You were hosting a pajama party in the penthouse suite. When we were brought in, rock music was playing inside. You opened the door and scolded us for being so slow. Then, the four of us girls were sent inside.”
“Anan, I was wrong. I love you…”
Zhou Ye’s voice was barely audible, as he pleaded humbly with me, “I was young back then… immature, I made mistakes. Give me a chance, let me make it up to you…”
“You were young? And what about me?” My face hung low.
“You always said I wasn’t after your money. On that point, you were right.”
From beginning to end, all I wanted was his life.
Zhou Ye was always surrounded by bodyguards, and his vigilance was high. Getting close to him was difficult, and leaving unscathed was even harder.
Over the years, I had been studying him.
I analyzed his habits and psychological flaws, targeting his deep-seated suspicion stemming from losing his mother at a young age, and overcame them one by one.
I orchestrated accidents to make him rely on me; I showed indifference to material desires, displaying no interest in money or jewelry, to earn his trust.
I even proposed a prenuptial agreement, proving I had no ulterior motives.
Zhou Ye tilted his face upward in agony. The bedroom was on the second floor of the villa, with maids and bodyguards downstairs. He desperately tried to call for help, but his throat could only emit faint hissing sounds.
Every minute, every second, felt excruciatingly long.
The sounds of struggle grew weaker, like life’s hardships, which always reach a point of cessation.
When the room was left with only the sound of my breathing, I turned to the mirror, where my cold, smiling face was reflected.
The man in my arms stared wide-eyed, his head limp and tilted to one side.
He died with his eyes open, just as I had hoped.
In an instant, tears flooded my eyes. Disheveled and hysterical, I burst out of the room.
“Help! Someone, please! My husband is in trouble!”
