Chapter 16
The next evening, Lu Xiao arrived right on time to pick me up.
A birthday party for a man like him was, of course, a huge event. A large crowd had gathered to celebrate with him.
Just as we were about to enter the private room, my phone rang. It was my boss.
I called out to him.
“Lu Xiao.”
The music and chatter in the club were deafening. It was so loud my ears hurt.
He didn’t hear me.
I quickly reached out to tug on his sleeve to get him to wait. But the lighting was dim, and in my haste, I accidentally grabbed one of his fingers.
Lu Xiao: “?”
Lu Xiao stopped walking.
He turned back and looked at my hand, which was now wrapped around his ring finger.
My hand was so much smaller than his. The contrast was stark.
The image suddenly had an indescribable tension to it.
My phone was still vibrating wildly, and the club was too loud, so I leaned in close to his ear to speak.
The warm air I exhaled brushed against his ear canal.
“I have to take a call from my boss outside. You go in first and wait for me.”
“…”
In the曖昧 glow of the club, Lu Xiao’s ears seemed to turn a little red.
He stared at me as I took a step back to create some distance, his gaze dark.
“Okay.”
